Great news for Tag and DL4, hopefully some good support from Honda UK too :upyeah:

  3. Nice! They were having mega issues with the r1’s

  4. Yeah they’ve struggled all season long with the chatter, both Dan and Kennedy. It was ok for a few laps early in race but developed in to unrideable!
Hopefully a good season for them next year :)

  5. I rate linfoot. I reckon he’ll do okay if they can get something with the Honda. Winfield I don’t think think will do much. But he’ll do a damn sight better in stock than sbk !

  6. I watched Winfield trying out the Honda super stock bike at Donnington a few months back, honestly it was embarrassing how fast he and the bike were, it looked like he was in the novice group!!! A real stark reminder that even fast group track riders aren’t in the same league

  7. I guess that’s what they have loads of R1 bits on eBay lately

  8. ive really been put off the new r1s with all the problems they have with them, yamaha engines seemed to be made of cheese these days even at moto gp level, wonder if it would help ditching the cross plain crank set up??

  9. I’ve bought 2 R1s this year - I bought a 2018 model (2020 registered) R1M in the summer and it’s been great on the road. Made we change the gen 3 s1000rr track bike I had to a 2016 R1. I should’ve probably waited for a 2017 on R1 with the stronger engine but it was a good spec and the price was right.
Be my first time out on track with it on Sunday at Cartagena.

  10. The workshop Youtube channel did some analysis of the crank snap failures on R1, a not uncommon failure it seems, Yamaha claimed no changes but from what his investigation revealed there was a thrust shim added to stop side float in the crank that was leading to the crank weight hitting the balance shaft and snapping the crank. It seems since some time in 2016 they are a lot stronger engines.

  11. Really interesting video that. Phil seton disagreed with it mind.

the issue was supposed to be 15’s wasn’t it with the silver motor? But I’ve seen numerous new ones blow with the black motor (can’t remember which way round it is these days.

but there still seems to be the odd problem with 19’s and 20’s going pop

  12. Yeah, I'm no mechanical engineer but it seems to me that with that firing order, at any one time one of the pistons have to push 3 pistons through their stroke 2 of which may be on the compression stroke, so I would assume Yamaha have had to compensate by making some of the material weights heavier, like conrods for example, or lowering the compression ratio slighty (unlikely) but while still spinning the whole lot at 13k rpm!

I still think it's great that Yamaha did something different though with the road engines, and I've not personally heard of any going pop on the road, it's all race stuff.
