Looks like as your bikes reach the ripe old age of forty the DVLA are going to close the loop hole that allowed you to display a black & silver number plate. It won't affect vehicles already fitted with one AND constructed before 1st January 1980. Vehicles constructed after that date will have to fit normal white/yellow plates. Also, from 1st January 2021 you will no longer be able to fit a new number plate with the Euro symbol on it. There will also be a new standard for number plates on 1st September 2021.
Just to be clear, the things you mention ARE the new standard, that will become mandatory on 1st September 2021. A green colour (shown where the flags would be) has also been introduced from December that can be displayed on zero emission vehicles.
I could care less about a black plate -are they cool?- but in about three weeks my TS185 is MOT & Road Tax exempt and that makes me smile!
I was in the Post Office today getting my Honda listed as 'Historic' under the 40 year rule so that is me tax exempt as well.
This might be of interest to anyone with a 'historic' bike. https://www.fbhvc.co.uk/news/articl...5eOkrDMJU4r2336SPM-sjy9ILVN6ZlFcqz0oesS_80fMo
