1260 Ducati Multistrada 1260 V4 !! 190hp

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by victit, Jul 9, 2019.

  1. I'm really trying hard to like the way the V4 looks but I just think it's a very messy design all round compared to my trusty Volcano Grey 1200 DVT.

IMHO too many different textures, shapes and colours for my liking. As others have said, there is no 'flow' to it, a real shame as I was really looking forward to the update.

  2. Going way back to GaryO's post, this is what most including myself expected.
Least not forget the title of this thread: 190 HP

  4. Why would you want 190bhp in an upright touring bike? I doubt it would be very stable or usable.

You should be looking at the Streetfighter .

  5. In it's current form, not a chance in hell.
Seems I'll be with my 2018 1260 Pikes Peak for a long long time.

  6. I’d rather ride a multi with a good fairing and 190ho than a streetfighter

  7. +1^ Brother.
There's no sound justification for a 200 hp naked bike other than bragging rights.
I own a Monster 1200R. It dyno'd at 140 hp (@ the rear wheel) and will reach 150 mph.
I can't handle any speed over 100 mph for more than a few minutes as the wind just flattens my face against the helmet.
However, I can ride the Multistrada Pikes Peak all day over 100 mph, not that I would.
IMHO, a naked bike is for rambunctious fun. In fact, it's nearly impossible to keep a Monster 1200's front wheel on the ground.

  8. If you’re trying to justify a 200bhp naked, you’re buying the wrong bike.

Trying to justify 99% of modern bikes is pointless. I don’t even attempt justifying that amount of money sat in the garage for 6 days a week.

  9. I used to buy a new bike every 3yrs, and and would have that conversation with myself, but for the first time I’ve bought my current 13’ mutley. Slapped it on a 0% credit card, could have bought it outright but why bother and decided that is the way to go for me from now on, I had to MOT it a couple weeks ago, I think that’s the first time I’ve done that in 25yrs! Maybe it’s an age thing, maybe it’s the Lidl effect?
But on that note, if any of you decide you are smitten with the new V4 and have a well looked after V2 DVT or 1260 going cheap then give me a bell ;)

  10. The physics involved would mean so much electronic controls and interference, i just don't think it would be much fun.

Ducati could have made that bike but didn't. I doubt there is a big enough market for it.

  11. Same with my monster really. First nom new main bike for 9 yrs maybe??

  12. How can 200hp not be fun?! The issue would have been too speed. Having a bike like that in weight and posture doing 179 mph....but then I’d like to see how a SF gets on at that speed!
For some unknown reason, cost or reliability maybe, they’ve given it about the same power as a 2013 TS with a full system and a map and probably 25+ down on its normal competitors: XR and KTM

  13. We will have to agree to disagree on that one brother!

The gap in the market between (for example) the Panigale and Streetfighter V4 is huge in my opinion. A Streetfighter with a 3/4 fairing would sell big. Ducati aren’t the only ones with this gaping hole in their range.

I can only think of one reason for not building a bike like this. It would take sales from both models and dilute market statistics.

  14. Just to correct you I think you'll find that the new Multi V4 is 168BHP !!

  15. Who knows, with a system and some kind of map (if possible - DVT I still think isn’t) you may get much more crank hp like many other bikes. 168rwhp would be far more interesting than that at the crank

  16. I'm pretty sure Ducati know their market. Their sales figures suggest they do.

I just don't see where on UK, US or even European roads (excepting small parts of the Autobhan) you will get to use that much power. Its pointless paying a premium for something that you cannot use.

Its interesting listening to the journalists (44teeth and Michael Neeves both keep saying this) that big litre sportsbikes are no longer relevant to road use and a smaller less powerful engine is more fun and more involving. Why take adventure bikes up the same route?

Each to their own i guess.

  17. 100% agree, they know their market and they know the market. The two being distinctly different things.

Their Multistrada market buys 17" front wheel and SSSA. The market, which is far bigger, buys a BMW GS. If you’re in charge of the P&L, a GS copy makes a lot of sense.

Look at how many sports car manufacturers have jumped on the SUV wagon. Ferrari are about to release one. They’ll have the purists screaming from the rooftops and then sell a bucket load.

    Sound familiar?

  18. The world constantly changes.

We should never assume our generation will always pull all the strings, it doesn't work like that.
