916 vs 848

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by funkyrimpler, Jun 7, 2013.

  1. Best VFM is prob going to be the 1098S. :upyeah:

  2. mag swing arm get you the 20mm or,.....put a 848 swing arm in a 916.....better still put a modified streetfighter one in.the 848 doesnt have any rear ride height adjustment or rake adjustment unless you change stuff.........hey ho...

  3. Lol not quite Andy. Mine is 60 plate Evo has Ohlins front, TTX rear, ride height adj bar, full bespoke map, slipper clutch, slip ons and cost about 10k all in. Also have full track kit for those special days :) sure its not a 1098R, for starters its far easier to ride fast than one of those beasts, nor does it have the servicing risks of the R, nor is it as exclusive or as desirable.

If I sold mine now, I cold probably recoup 9k and if I cold find an R for only 1k more, nice low miles and mint one as mine was when I bought it, even I'd be tempted :upyeah:

  4. Quid the 999 in this discussion?

    (Sorry, I'm talking Latin again)

  5. So 11000 for the bike 10000 of stuff you have added on.........your only a couple of grand short of the gold bar grips......tart it up what you like its still a 848 with bits on

back on topic.i actually agree with the get a 1098S....right bits right oomph experience good stable mate for the 916!

  6. If your weak and slow like me the 848 makes a great little road bike, very supersport and nothing like a 916 IMO in all ways even if the same geom etc.. :)

  7. so general opinion is to go for the 1098?

  8. There's not much more power from an 848 - the claimed 140hp (or whatever) is more like 110-115 at the wheel. A good 916 is not far behind, with some headwork mine made 118rwhp combine that with the 916s better low-midrange and there's not much in it, although 848 is lighter.

848 is a great bike but, for me anyway, wouldn't offer enough of an 'upgrade' to change, especially as my 916 has upgraded brakes & suspension etc.

But if you buy an 848 and then swap to a dry clutch, you've already spent 1098 money so may as well get the 1098/1198 - you know it makes sense... :upyeah:

  9. Its hard the 848 or 1098 as IMO they are nothing like each other, the engine makes them totally different to ride.. The 848 likes to rev and is easy on the rider you can feed loads of throttle mid corner and keep it pinned it likes to carry corner speed, not saying the 1098 can't carry corner speed but the motor has huge grunt unlike the revy 848, the 848 still has the 160+ top end but takes a lot longer to get there.. I could have easy got a 1098 but chose the 848 as I wanted the character of the motor and the way it rides I like 250cc two strokes etc so enjoy the little 848 in much the same way hacking up and down the box scratching around on B roads. Since 2008 when I got my 848 I keep adding bits and bobs and now have a good package IF I had the cash I have spent since then in one lump at the time I'd have prob come away with a 1098R but that was NEVER going to happen! I am still happy with the 848 and don't want a 1X98X as they don't offer what the 848 has.. Strange but true.. :D I ride often with 1L+ bikes and the 848 has never been underpowered as a matter of a fact its FAST and so far has always opened some eyes in regards to power....lol

  10. Pmsl no...10k INCL all the bits I have added :upyeah: function over form for me...bought bike for 10 with some spare kit, sold the kit, upgraded with the money as it became available. Whether someone buy a 916, and 848 or whatever, its buying the right bike that counts if you dont want to spend a fortune making it work he best it can outside of a full on race bike.

  11. My Evo made 139 after a full custom map where the DP map made 131.

so even allowing for anything else naysayers like to porclaim, its a tad more than a 916...my old pre evo made 124 and that was bog stock incl cans

  12. I saw few 916's make 100+... maybe all the ones I saw on the dyno were sick ;)

  13. My 916 made, from what i can remember, 108 on the dyno. It had not trick bits at all, but was well set up. It was a fab bike, though passed by more recent stuff on track straights. The 999 definitely has more - it immediately felt significantly faster. But how much more, I neither know nor care very much.

  14. mine made 118 on the dyno in march.

  15. 112-118 for a 996 bip, 130-135 for a 848

  16. When I was lookin to change from the 749s had a good look around. Lighter, more power, better build, better handling, servicing and lastly those fikin brakes!!! 848 for me, best bike I have owned. More than enough torque for the road and if your mates on litre bikes are getting away from you, your doin something wrong

  17. And some potatoes cut in half.

  18. there are some funny smells going on in this thread. smells like.......bull
    some very ambitious dynos
