Hi, has anybody stripped the paint from a panigale tank? Or any tank for that matter. I’m considering my paint scheme options for my 1299 track bike and like the exposed ally look on the R tanks etc. My tank is immaculate so can’t really justify doing it. But that being said, to pull that look off, the tank has to be undamaged in the first place. interested to see if anybody has gone down that road and if you have any photos. Cheers Matt
How about getting it wrapped like this one https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/sneak-peek-of-my-next-wrap-updated.83202/#post-1775578
I did mine, I bought a stripper called Starchem SynStryp it is not pleasant stuff and takes a few goes. Once its all stripped its a case of lots and lots of rubbing in one direction with purple Scottish pads. I had mine clear coated with a satin rather than gloss.
Funny enough, I have just completed one today for a panigale 1199. Only took a day or two. Used a DA sander to strip the paint. Then wet and dryed the tank to a smooth finish. Then gave it a brushed effect and topped it of with a coat of matt lacquer on top of both tank and badges. Easy enough. View attachment 228147
Now, are you saying that from a painted tank. That stripping the paint , preparing the aluminium to final brushed finish. Only took you one hour. Some thing not right there
No just to wrap it in brushed metal vinyl, sorry should have said, if you thought it was real, jobs done!
I was going to say is that a wrap. I had a go of wrapping a tank many moons ago and it was a lot harder than I thought.
That does look on point. Have you got a link or recommendation for what wrap to use. I’m just browsing eBay now and nothing jumps out at me
Ebay is not the place for wrap, its just cheap nasty stuff, look at the avery supreme range, its not cheap, 5 different shades inc cobolt blue and an anodised black!
I was really tempted by this on Ebay a while ago, and liked the Ali tank look so much I kept a couple of images. Unfortunately it was way beyond my means. Nasher
What a fine job, Spider! My workmanship/beer appointment would not have been accommodating enough for that. I have seen a nice looking decal that would allow folks like myself to get back to the fridge for a top up in less than 2 days, though! This is from Vulturbike.com Dave
