Sadly it is true. He penned some wonderful books RIP https://www.theguardian.com/books/2...hor-of-tinker-tailor-soldier-spy-dies-aged-89
A great rider and engineer https://www.bikesportnews.com/news/news-detail/peter-williams-has-had-died
RIP. Remember Peter racing for Arter Brothers on the A2 between Canterbury and Dover. On 500 cc AJS bikes.
Very sad. I met with him several years ago at the Stafford Classic Bike Show and we chatted for ages to eventually get his blessing for my pals at Davida to produce a PW replica helmet. They wanted to include it in a limited edition Classic Racers' Series that they did a few years ago. Typical of his modesty though, he couldn't really understand why they'd want to include him in the Series with the other great racers they'd selected. My argument was that, whereas others had simply raced, he'd also raced, but then furthered the cause of motorcycling for us all by improving the very machines we all enjoyed. He pioneered/perfected the application of monocoque design, adapted disc brakes for use on motorcycles and introduced alloy wheels in an era of leaky British twins and singles facing off against the very early drum braked offerings from Japan. By proving all those concepts in the heat of 'battle' on race tracks all over the world, it did not take long for them to become an integral part of motorcycle design that we all now take for granted. Rest in peace Peter Williams.
Very sad news, a true gentleman I had the pleasure of meeting him at Snetterton several years back, a more unassuming man you couldn't wish to meet, RIP Peter.
You lucky people to have met P.W., heard from several accounts over the years, one of the loveliest blokes i'll never meet. RIP Peter.
You're right, Chris. He was very easy to talk with, completely devoid of ego, genuinely interested in other points of view, easy going and all marvelling at his accomplishments was entirely mine.
Aww shit i feel bad now, its like i gave him the kiss of death here.......... i posted a photo on here a couple of days ago of his John Player Norton. RIP Peter a top man .
Saw him race quite a few times and met him twice/having a long chat both times... RIP Peter you were always a class act. Steve R
RIP to Leslie West, a fabulous guitarist that although had commercial success I would think is unknown to most. Try listening to theme from an imaginary western for a taste.
Nantucket Sleighride was a classic. The instrumental bit from 1:40 was used as the theme tune to Weekend World in the '70s/80s.
