Aren’t The British Wonderful?

  1. Ah, you just can’t beat the British when it comes to being honest and upstanding can you? The Swiss Government imposed a 10 day quarantine period backdated to 14th. December due to the new strain of COVID found in U.K. In Verbier, the ski resort in Switzerland, there were 420 British holiday makers in several hotels and of course, they were supposed to be in quarantine. So what do the British tourists do? Why they make a run for it in the middle of the night!

Some hoteliers only found out when the service trays left outside of their rooms were found untouched, other hoteliers found out when the holiday makers had crossed the border into France and phoned up to demand refunds!

Sometimes I just despair at the shear selfishness of people.

  3. So you land on Sat, get told Sat night you are in lockdown even though no one else is, and you have to stay confined to your room. No wonder they packed and left.

BTW this strain has already been all over Europe: funny British are the ones being blamed and vilified and having restrictions just at the end of a brexit deal

  4. Should make a good film along the lines of The Heroes of Telemark - a plucky group of Brits outwit bumbling bureaucrats and in the dead of night slip over the Alps to freedom.

  5. Not sure why you would think the Swiss are penalising Brits because of Brexit as they aren’t fully paid up members of the EU and weren’t part of the negotiating team?

Not all things that happen to the UK are about our having left the EU, this may well have been due to concerns by the Swiss on public health.

  6. EU are. Swiss want to be alone in the privilege so why not tow the rules line on dealing Bath all that is U.K. ?

So you’d happily sit for 2 weeks in a hotel room after arriving when yesterday you simply wouldn’t haven travelled? Even worse you arrived last week and now have to sit there for 10 days at least....

  7. A re make of ‘The Sound of Music’ maybe, an entitled bunch of Brits don’t like their seasonal Verb’s trip ruined by a public health emergency?

  8. This new strain has been known of for more than a few days sensible of those Brits that did travel to do so, exemplary of them to ‘run away’ when it suited them.

Stinks of entitlement to me, other opinions are available.

As much as I’d like to I decided against travelling to Verbier this year during a global pandemic just in case guidelines I didn’t fancy were introduced.

  9. Sounds like jealousy against those who like skiing. Why keep the slopes open if they worry that much?
    • On December 22 Switzerland closed all restaurants and bars, sports and recreation centres and other cultural institutions for a month; ski areas can remain open, the government announced on December 18.

  11. Not at all I’ve a a bucketful of skiing holidays over a long period of time, sliding on various platforms down a slope gets a little tedious after a while. In any case Verbs wouldn’t have been my resort of choice other than a last resort.

I had considered Colorado this year but binned it off as I didn’t wish my break tainted.

If they had closed the bars and restaurants no way would I wish to go.

In an ever changing world things change either for or against you why risk a lockdown whilst on holiday.

  13. Unless the selfish elements all over the World get real about the virus, we will be living with it for a few years to come yet.

Hopefully the Swiss will ban them permanently from their Country.

  14. You mean that virus with a sub-1% morality rate in 85% of the population? Who’s selfish most: those at risk demanding the world stops or the majority with minimal risk just trying to get on with life?

  15. Seems like every Country in the world has got it wrong in your eyes then.... except for the handful with very high death rates.

  16. Nope. Their risk benefit analysis with their experts and social media factored in seems that the reporting of covid (flu type) deaths is less acceptable than creating trillions of debt that will put millions into poverty and probably kill millions verses hundred of thousands but will be less visible.

Amd no one has a very high death rate. Even the most vulnerable in their 90s are more likely to survive than not. Get a grip. Read the facts. Not the media. ONS is the best place to start for UK stats.

  17. Why? Did the owners get distracted by having to fight off Russian burglars in the east wing and then American burglars in the west wing? :p
