  4. Put a pair of Dainese Axial In boots up for sale on the *bay

  5. Ordered a new battery and fuel couplings for my new to me 749, hopefully have it running in a couple of weeks, so I can solve the issue of dying revs after high rpms. 6FB9FE3A-D779-4F31-8F47-54C2391B2539.jpeg

  6. I’m carrying checking over the DT125R I bought blind (due to suddenly being moved into Tier 4 last week) for my youngest son’s Xmas present. It was only delivered at 11pm on the 23rd so I didn’t really get chance to have a proper look at it until a couple of days ago.

    2870BFC2-89C4-48A6-B6A2-DD4AF5969B5B.jpeg

Discovered that when the seller’s ad info described the bike as “fully rebuilt”, he’d obviously run out of characters as he’d omitted the words “...using any old mismatched parts and random rusty fasteners that I had lying around at the time”.

    Selected highlights...

The throttle cable wasn’t attached properly at either end, meaning it had about 1.5” of play and was prone to sticking open, so each twist of the wrist was like Russian roulette and the idle speed varied between “virtually stalling” and “screaming its nuts off”

    Running very rich.

Petrol leak at the join between the petcock and fuel line.

    Brake light not working.

The speedo (from an R6 I think) was attached with, incredibly, a piece of meccano and a self tapping screw which had split the plastic spigot meaning that when I removed the unit in order to get at the wiring I wasn’t able to reattach it afterwards.

I’ve sorted all of those issues and we’ve both ridden the bike slowly around the block a couple of times but it won’t be going back on the road until I’ve gone over the rest of the deathtrap bike in the next few days to check for any other issues, as it wouldn’t surprise me to find that the rear sprocket is held on with cable ties or similar. It has a fresh MOT, which begs the question as to how it passed with a fuel leak and no brake light....

The 1978 DT175 twin shock I bought for myself (also blind) should be here around lunchtime so fingers crossed that is in better shape.....

  7. Seeing as I was meant to be going out for a ride but the roads round here are still covered in snow and are frozen, I have decided to re-waterproof my textiles whilst I’m waiting for my new heated gloves to be delivered :)

  8. Track fairings onto the 1199 ready for whenever and wheels removed to fit slicks.

  9. Took a new 108 link chain out of its box. Put it on the workbench and counted the number of links I needed to remove. Got chain tool out and reminded myself how it works.
Had some fags, listened to a Dope Lemon CD.
    Came in.

  10. Hope the lads not to dissapointed Zhed

  11. Hey, he just loves the fact that he has a 2 stroke dirt bike! It’s scruffy but serviceable and tbh it was pretty cheap, though some of the savings evaporated once BoJo pitched us into Tier4 meaning that I had to pay £300 to have it collected and delivered.

My DT175 arrived mid-afternoon and that also has issues (broke down on its first ride) which I’ve been in the workshop trying to resolve the last few hours.:triumph:

I’ll update the other thread rather than diverting this one massively OT....

  12. Took the oil filter off to see if I can stop it leaking (only recently changed, still haven't thrown the old one away), cleaned everything, hand tightened as normal but it still seems to be leaking. Time for another filter.

It also seems that Ducati changed the design for some reason (or to get them made cheaper) and they now have tabs on the inside of the seal groove, old on the right, new on the left.

  13. Do you think the tabs in the groove are preventing the o ring from seating correctly on the crankcase and thus causing the leak?

  14. No idea, but they seem to stop the o-ring from moving round so may make it harder to seal properly and it's the only difference I can see (with the o-ring) between a filter that didn't leak and one that does.

  15. Cleared the shed so I could fit the 749 and another workbench for the others engine, just got to sort out all my spares and tools.
Added some led lights aswell, apparently good for 4 hours of continuous light. 564FEB1C-6B29-43AF-9089-86B32C94F4C1.jpeg D8F03425-3BC9-44ED-82DD-F273A26DEED8.jpeg

  16. Finally fitted the new chain to my 1098R.
It's been sitting in the back of the garage since September 2019 after the chain snapped on a trackday. My fault for not peening the solid rivet link enough 3500 miles previously. Found the bent and mangled old link jammed behind the frame just by the footrest. o_O:eek:
