I had a 2010 S with Ohlins and did 32K miles in 3 years and it was a cracking bike, made in Italy and rebuilt in Surrey! once it got to 20K I had no issues at all . No doubt the 2012 Multi will have the rawest engine, DVT are a bit softer as was the twin spark. Watch out for the valve service (every 12k - IIRC?) make sure it has been done and if not and it is due soon adjust price accordingly, could be about £800-£1,000. Also check the seals on the front Ohlins.
Aye. Just for my own interest I’m going to sound out the dealer on the 2012 to see if they are really serious about that price. It’s tricky to find bikes to test ride at the mo but I won’t be doing anything till I have tried them all.
Our used market here in Canada is the same. Sellers are expecting way too much. Same for cars. Lots to do with financing as the vehicle values depreciated faster than the residual amount owing. Lenders are at the heart of the problem. People can't afford the payments consequently they stretch the terms longer than they should.
I think you were very unlucky. I'd heard a few years back of one or two 2010/2011 bikes suffering main bearing failure, but none from more recent years. Anyone else heard of mains failures?
Ouch. Unless it happened really soon after purchase I don't know anywhere you'd get a warranty against that kind of thing on a used bike.
If you buy from a dealer they should be able to offer you an extended warranty. At a price obviously!
I paid £6500 for my '63 1200s touring (Skyhook, twinspark) with extras with 11k miles on the clock. It was from a Honda dealer and Dec 19. As for the height, I'm 5'8" and its ok can happily flat foot on one side at the lights, paddle on my toes on both feet a bit, just have to be mindful of camber and where I'm stopping etc. Also a little daunting 2 up due to the weight esp uphill, steep junctions. A mate had a DVT for a while and I seem to recall the seat height and width a little easier to deal with on that, didn't feel so top heavy either?
