998R Front Brake Lines

  1. I've managed to source a set of Brembo P4 4 pad calipers for my 996 at a ridiculously low price, so to use them with the standard master cylinder I figure a set of 998r front lines is the best option.

Hel, Goodridge and a few others do 998r kits, only thing I'm a little confused about is that they say they're 3 lines, maybe that just means 3 lines and a t-piece but I wanted to be sure.

Have you guys got any recommendations as to what you've used (my preferred option is to follow the standard routing with the mudguard clip)?

  2. i think your right 3 lines = T piece

OEM lines look tidier but imho 2 lines straight from the master to calliper is preferable
reason being is that its easy to get an air bubble in the loop of hose over the mudgaurd which can be annoying to bleed out.
with 2 lines any air bubbles have an unimpeded path back up to the master where they are dispersed back into the reservoir the next time the lever is squeezed.

  3. I'm not 100% but I think the 998s came with the 2 pad goldline caliper????

The unions are on the side on the 4 pad and on the top on the 2 pad.

Did find a two line kit for a 2002 748R, which I think had the 4 pad calipers.

  4. 998s came with P4 4 pads same as 749/999 but gold in colour

  5. that hel kit cranker suggested will fit

  6. Thank you both :upyeah:

  7. Oneball if you are going to go for HEL lines let me know i am able to get a discount on them comes to about £15 a line any color line and ends

  8. If you go for HEL, make sure the 4-pad lines have the correct banjo positioning. As I was sent ones for the Goldline type and had to get the correct ones re-sent.

  9. Tell a lie their prices have gone up and the discount has gone down i can still get 25% off if its any help

  10. I used HEL for a 748R model when I fitted P4's to my 748R engined 748S. You can get them on eBay quite reasonably. 2 lines are best, one for each caliper, they are supposed to give better braking than the standard three line kit.

  11. is it a repeatable source you can share -publically or privately at all?

    cheers

  12. ^ It was just luck, they were on ebay with a bad description, came across them by accident with 2hrs to go, cheeky bid, job done

If you're looking for some it's worth remembering they weren't just fitted to Ducatis, putting something on ebay with Ducati in the title seems to immediately double the price.

  13. Im not the only one who's noticed that then! I got my m4's cheap by searching for KTM ones. Saved about £250.

  14. I used my 998 P4's on my S4 Monster. As I'm using a 1098R front wheel with 999 15mm ofset discs, I had to machine 5mm off the thickness of the mounting lugs.

I guess if I use them for something else, I can always put some 5mm spacers in.

  15. Be careful with twin (race) lines on the 916 series, especially if you're using a radial master cylinder with a pressure-switch banjo bolt, as there is very limited clearance (if any!) onto the air tubes on full lock.

  16. Thanks Antonye for the tip, I'm not using a radial master cylinder, so standard type with the electro-switch, line comes out the end rather than underneath so shouldn't be any issues with fouling on lock.

  17. 2 straight lines is always best. I've been told you can't race with standard over the mudguard routing as should the guard come loose for whatever reason, it can take the line with it. I know it shouldn't happen on the road, but i did have a guard blow to pieces though a big puddle on my old ZX6R. Worth thinking about. Plus i've always found it easier to bleed 2 lines as the top of the arch over the guard can be an air bubble trap.

  18. My 749R race bike has the T-line arrangement, with the cross-over line fastened to the bottom yoke.
