With Fireball, it was cheaper to buy mp3. OK, that makes sense as it is just digital, but Machine Head was cheaper to buy CD than mp3. Don't get it - as usual.
After giving away 150ish vinyl albums and 100plus cds before moving house, most of my stuff is stored on Spotify..
I've "digitised" all of my vinyl and CDs, but I prefer to have them stored on MY drive that is shared on Google Drive. That way, I can access my music on my computer, laptop, music system, or tablet - but I like to have my stuff on my hardware that I control. I usually buy on whatever format is cheapest. If that is CD, then I buy that and rip it myself.
