I recently bought a 2007 1098s with the «old» type of Termi cans. Can I swap my old cans with the «new» slash cut Termi cans like the ones on 1198? Will the slash cut cans fit straight on my old pipes? I believe I have the full system, the dash is showing Racing EVO when the ignition is turned on. Thanks.
So far as I know they should be a straight swap, not sure that there's any benefit though other than making the bike look the way you want it which is fine.
I have measured the outer diameter on the connection between the pipes and the silencers to be around 56mm and the pipes themselves to be around 69mm. Here’s how it looks.
That looks like a 70mm system. I believe the spring lugs on slash cut system are on the opposite side to the non slash system. @Chris may be able to comment.
The 1098/1198 looks stunning with the slash/cut pipes. Never understood why anyone would get the 'blob' standard ones.
I think you are right there R (I’m not home) the spring anchors are a bit bespoke to the system they are sold with, bound to be others along to confirm.
Okay, so not brilliant but 1098R, 70mm system, slash cut can to adaptor springs facing each other. The black plastic is the seat base. and slash cut can adaptor pipe to exhaust pipe Andy
The slash cut ones were not available early in the 848/1098 product lifecycle so there was no choice but the "blob" ones. My 09 848 had the older style ones put on when I bought it as they were the only choice, I have since changed to the slash cut ones as they look so much better.
Did you have a 70mm system on your 848? I was told by seller the slash cut ones does not fit my 70mm system only stock headers. Diameter on the slash cans is 54mm according to seller. Are the slash cut cans made in different sizes? I’m a bit confused now if I can swap or not without changing the pipes as well. Here’s how it looks on my bike now.
Sorry I can't help as I don't know. Both styles of end can on mine are slip-on system only, not full system.
@RickyX I noticed that too. All my Google searches show the springs on the outside. My system has the springs on the inside. Think I’ll just cancel this project. Thank’s you guys for all your input. Cheers.
When I fitted slash cuts to my 848, as stated above, I had to weld the spring hooks on the opposite side. Easy 5 minute job for someone who can TIG weld.
@RacingDuck the ones in your pic may be slip ons. I will look at mine tomorrow (70mm full system with slash cuts) and let you know.
Pic of my 70mm system... Springs on outside. Also gratuitous pic of the R as I wheeled it out into the sun...
