916. Showa Fork, Kit Bitubo Or Andreanni?

  1. Hello !!
The question I have is the following ... on my Ducati 916 from 1996, it comes with a Showa fork, and the fact is that the compression and preload can be adjusted above, but I cannot find the screw that regulates the extension ... be this? Or do I have another fork?
The idea is to change the suspension pistons for Bitubo or Andreani, both brands come with compression and extension, but I'm telling you, I can't find the screw at the bottom of the fork. It could be that there were some forks no extension?
And by the way ... anyone have put a piston kit of those that I have described above.?
    Sorry, but I don’t write/speak weel english...
    Thank you!!!

  2. Hola,
your English is fine, much better than my Spanish, I'm sure 916 forks had full adjustment, unless previous keeper has been there!
Top is, Spring preload and extension (Rebound) lower is compression. Location same as identified on attached link. Good luck.

  4. You have to make sure the notches (buenos notches?) in the spindle are lined up to the recess in the fork clamp.
This then allows access to the damping adjuster via a small hole through the spindle. 2.5 or 3 mm hex key if I remember correctly.

  8. Sorry, my memory was incorrect - you need a slotted screwdriver!
Very pleased that you found it!

  9. Not Andreani or Bitubo but I had K-tech internals fitted into my 916 forks, nice improvement in feel and comfort although I also had lighter springs fitted at the same time which helped.

I have now fitted these forks to my Monster where they are still very good but I did have to reduce the spring rate again due to the lighter bike.

I fitted 1198 Ohlins forks to the 916 and also had K-tech valving fitted into these (again with lighter springs) and this is also an improvement over Ohlins standard so, I would definitely recommend K-tech.

Can't speak for Andreani and the only experience I have of Bitubo is on my old Guzzi forks which performs fine but, given how old it is I doubt the experience/comparison is of any use.
