  1. You know it makes sense.
Forget vacuum cleaners. I reckon you have a little apron and feather duster. :dizzy:

  3. Agas are great until you want to actually fry something or boil a pan of water, in which case you need to apply in writing on 7 days’ notice.

When I was making bone broth the other week for my incredibly spoiled dog (and yes, the girlf did point out that it’s the first time I’ve cooked anything in the 4 years she’s known me), I put the pan on the hot plate, took him out for a walk for about an hour, and it still wasn’t boiling when I came back.

  4. The most important piece of kitchen equipment other than a bottle opener, is a good potato peeler. My wife is brilliant and so fast

  5. i would have put it in the oven first thing in the morning ready for lunch :D

  6. Since the girlf is away at her own place for a week or two due to upcoming site visits in that London, I have had to start to fend for myself. Applying my powers of logic and reason to the conundrum, I’ve discovered that the quickest and most fuel efficient way to cook bacon and sausages is to put them on a tray and bake/roast them en masse in the oven compartment and store the surplus in Tupperware containers to be reheated in the microwave when required. :upyeah:

  7. Exactly that’s what I do

  8. Aluminium, all the way. There's a reason they're favoured by pro chefs. Having something you can take off the hob and bung in the oven has great benefits.

  9. Not just me then? I struggle with this kind of thing all the time. Like where to buy quality towels.

I like stainless steel pots, easy to clean with soft steel scourers. I swapped pots with my mum as she moved house and her pots would not work with her new hob. They are 38 years old and still great. Made by Meyer. Don’t know what they are like today

  10. From frozen, Bacon & sausages (black pudding optional) microwave defrost for 2 mins, frying pan 4-6mins. So hot and freshly prepared everytime for me. Since I'm typically frying eggs its all in the same pan so nothing extra.

@Zhed46 your steam cooker belongs in the museum.

  11. Get the ones you like the look of from Amazon and they arrive the next day. If you don't like them, send them back for full refund & order some others. If they wear out replace within 24 hours as above.

  12. Isn't that the truth, whilst my mum's still with us I've inherited a few bits off her over the years.

Everything she's given me has been from when my dad was still alive, some 30 odd years ago, and have all out lasted the new stuff I've bought showing no cracks, chips or anything, it's really quite something when the best 'go to' oven dishes and the like are as old as the person using them :)

I used to use a pressure cooker she gave me which was a wedding present for her & my dad, honestly it's as basic as it comes but built like a fucking tank.

Of course me being a fancy twat decided to go with the induction hob when I moved to the new house and it doesn't bloody work on it

  13. Without wanting to take @Advikaz thread off topic, does anyone have any experience of using Richardson Sheffield knifes?

If not those what else would be worth getting, need a set with a block, doesn't have to be top level chef stuff, I just want quality steel well weighted and super sharp

  14. Stop wasting time looking at others in this department. Denby is the clear winner , you’ll be more bored of using it long long before it gives up. I’ve had Denby stuff for more than 20 years and you can imagine how many times they’ve been used but you could probably wrap them up and give them as a new present without someone even noticing.

  17. Ooooh vey nice and good luck with the build. Hopefully you’ve got someone good on the costs and project management side so the costs don’t start going crazy and out of control, unlike every episode of Grand Designs that I watch.
