Acropovic Exhaust - Why?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by wotbus@, Feb 8, 2021.

  1. Listed as an option for my new Multi but fitted on many others:
Better Bling - Better Sound - Better Performance - Better Quality - Better Trade-in value - Better Snob value - Simply the One to Have for all of the above.
Definitely a better price :astonished:. If it's just performance by how much ?

  2. Better profit margin to Ducati I suspect as they try to replace Termis as the 'defacto' choice for Ducatis.

Better Bling - Subjective but I still think of Termis as the primo option.
Better Sound - Subjective, we all like different sounds.
Better Performance - Unlikely as none of the tech is groundbreaking.
Better Quality - There are horror stories about there for most manufacturers, at this end of the market they will be on a par.
    Better Trade-in value - Nope
Better Snob value - Nope, Akras to me are like the GSXR1000 of exhausts
Simply the One to Have for all of the above - Not in my book but other will have their own views.

  3. Is this for multis or all ducatis?
Ive had both termi on my 899 and akra on my 959 and the latter seem to be better built. (They also sound slightly better to me but as you say thats subjective.)

  4. For me, all, its a purity thing for me, and how do us mere mortals define better built ? I think there are good and better examples on all sides ....

  5. When I bought my V4S back in 2018, the dealer wanted 5k for an Akrapovic system fitting. I thought that was too much and I still do. I don't even like the look of the Akra's on the V4. So I went Termignoni with UpMap. My money, my choice- and it's the same for the OP :):upyeah:

  7. Does the sport/performance option come with just an end can or is it a full system? Presume it’s just the end can to meet euro regs?
I would be asking if the baffle is removable? They weren’t on my ‘17 Z1000SX. If I’d bought them directly they were but as part of the Kawasaki option they weren’t. I have to drill out the rivets of the end cap to be able to access the bolt to remove them, sounded slightly better but due to the cat box there wasn’t much in it. Have I known all that I probably wouldn’t have bothered?

  8. Hi Ackers. Can be a slip-on or full system. The Mutli doesn't sound like a Duke anyway, the V4 even worse IMO so for music/noise I will ride my Darmah/Conti's and leave the Multi to it's flat "bap bap bap".
I was very disappointed with the sound when I rode my pal's V4 Pani as I was expecting something like a howling MV or a Honda 6 on open pipes but when it was explained that the V4 is basically two V twins side by side and Euro5 rules...'nuff said. Didnt 'alf go though and the new V4 Multi I tried the other day :D but for me the Ducati sound charisma has disappeared : unamused:.

  9. I've kept my 899 exhausts stock, as I'm actually really impressed with how it sounds compared to other stock bikes. Plus I've opted to keep it simple with this bike, as it's in near mint, stock condition.

My favourite sounding bike I've owned to date was a 2010 R1, which came with de-cat Y-pipe and dual underseat Akras. I thought it sounded slightly better than the RSV4 I moved onto, which came with a full Akra system.

  10. Akro for me every time ! Have a full system on the R1 and it sounds epic! I’m really torn regarding a full system on the V 4 but if I do it will be a full Akro

  11. Akra for me too.

  12. To be honest with the power that standard Ducati’s produce, I very much doubt if many riders are capable of using it to its full potential.
So the additional assumed power from Akro’s, would not be needed or noticed.

  13. Track bike - Definitely worth to upgrade to a full system.
Road bike - Bling, bling, bling. (if more noise is the target then just split open the catalyst and remove internal baffles)
    Just my 2p...

  14. Muffler only specified in the configurator. Accessory page for muffler makes no mention of baffles but as it is road legal in the US, I’d venture to say no removable baffles. Full system only available separate to the bike but odd that the blurb states releases the full power of the Multistrada despite not being a road legal exhaust. Andy

  15. Is there a technical reason as to why the Tuono sounds amazing with an Akra system and the V4 sounds......well nowhere near as good as the ape ?

  16. Cylinder firing order. Andy
