Fuel cap paint defect

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by mrH, Jun 12, 2013.

  1. Having only completed a few hundred miles on my machine, I am somewhat disappointed with the "paint?" On the fuel cap coming off on the edge where the nozzle fits in. It must be where the nozzle rubs against the side. Be more careful you cry!
however, has anyone else had this problem? Really poor quality I feel. The only way is to fit some sort of cover over the metal, or be really careful !
i intend to mention it at first service.
i am way at the moment but will add a picture when I get back.

  2. My 10 fuel cap is starting to show its age after 17000m.

  3. I must admit that I'm disappointed with the painted finish on the Multi's fuel cap. All my previous Ducatis have had nice anodised ones.

  4. Oh my fucking Christ

  5. What he said../\

  6. Having said that, the O.P. could have a point. I find similar niggles with my 2012 S touring. I find that the footpegs get dirty & the rubber is wearing where I rest my feet, the tyres wear AND get dirty (ALL the way to the edge) and there is absolutely nowhere to fit a tow hitch so caravan holidays on the Mutley are out.

    I don't know...when you pay £15K for a motorbike......... rant... whine... drivel...

  7. I'm sure they will replace your foot pegs if you ask them nicely and maybe wash it for you at the service. Unless they are faulty. Maybe as a new ducati owner my standards are a bit too high to when it comes to build quality!?

thanks for the advice re caravans, I will cancel my tow hitch order....

  8. Yes they really have and it's crap!

  9. Happened on my 58 plate 848 so nothing new. Paint started to blister and peel away from around the fuel filler cap. Turned out to be a blocked breather hose causing fuel to expand out the gap. The paint then wouldn't 'stick' to the plastic tank. Looked awful and a respray didn't work because the plastic tank itself was degraded so nothing stuck.

  10. Saw this thread and admit to thinking "Worra load of nonsense", but after 3 years being careful, I twatted my cap ring with the fuel nozzle today and chipped the paint - oh the irony!

  11. Don't really want paint in the tank either!

  12. I also read this when I first joined and thought surely not !!

Well with less than 400 miles on my new GT I now have a lovely chip and indent on my cap surround.

Bloody bottom of the hose got caught round the other fuel line as I went to fuel up this evening and its going to bug the life out of me now. Why the hell did they paint that finish !! Surely anodised would have been the better route.

  13. Can it be removed easily and anodised?

  14. I had mine replaced under warranty as it was chipped from new when the dealer put some petrol in it.
