As Jez says above, check the V5 but also post the engine & VIN numbers up here, where they figure on the scale of production will tell you heaps. There’s enough people in here with them to be able to say yes it is 94 or no it’s not. For example if the engine & frame numbers end in a number below 1500 it’s definitely 94 if they end in a number above 5000 it’s definitely not (I used extremes there).
My 2cents. The driving factor now is that the real nice bikes are making such powerful money its dragged the rougher examples up in price. That’s left no examples under £5k and others pushing £13k let alone the limited number models and specials. This has also affected the used part prices so there’s even fewer cheap bikes as there worth more in bits. Do the maths, If you think these prices look about right, hit the agree button. I’ve seen parts advertised and sold for this type of money - full body kit, seat, fender, air box and tank etc £1k, engine £850 plus, 916 frame and v5 £750, headlight £400, clocks £100, pair wheels, tyres & discs £350, Forks bars and callipers £350, rear swinger and shock £150. Were pushing £4K already and those prices are fair. I see the bikes at £5.5-£8.5 mark as run of the mill 20 plus year old bikes. Look closely there will always be a the real nice one pop up. Spend £8.5-£10k and it’s the real choice of bikes for most people but it’s where the market sits. The £10k plus is the exception, rarer and pedigree or super mint stuff. As always not many people have that much loose change to splash on something they will hardly use so it’s common to see bikes advertised that don’t sell overnight But like all things, if it is for sale, and it’s a bargain then only one person can buy it. Once it’s gone it’s gone and lockdown is driving people to buy things to make them happy. Even if they can’t use them If a first edition is what your really looking for it carries a premium, if you don’t want the premium buy a 996 or a 748, they’re all as pretty to look at. just saying.
thanks for all the input guys. I've not managed to get number from the guy. he's not been the most helpful. I've decided ill be waiting until the right bike is there. I'm not in a rush to get one. I'm glad I've joing this site though. alot of great help and information so thanks again
@Tyla keveth you may benefit from joining this FB group https://www.facebook.com/groups/462068027313788/?ref=share Also there’s a 916 for sale just been posted on there. Yes, it’s in the USA (California) so duties (2.5%) and vat (20% on the landed price) have to be paid, plus there’s shipping & insurance to factor in but at $5000 US a quick back of the envelope calculation makes it a viable proposition.
What about a 748. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ducati-748/254860920130?hash=item3b56e50542:g:C5sAAOSwV4FgIZvA
I bought my 94 916 at the end of 2019 for £5k 95% original apart from the screen fairing rivets and rear shock (I have found all these parts since) just before prices seemed to go crazy. Mine was bad paintwork wise but mechanically very good with loads of history. Personally with all the questions and uncertainty around the one you posted I wouldn’t say it’s worth anything near what he wants for it but as others have said there are plenty of dreamers. For the people willing to pay the current premium for a 94 originality is key you could check in 20mins if the bike was in front of you. When mine is done going by current prices I could easily make a decent profit but that’s not why I’m doing it, I’m doing it because it’s my dream bike and I don’t intend on selling it. It really depends what you want if you want an original 94 this probably isn’t it
It's a '95 and US spec but...for 6500 GBP https://www.cycletrader.com/listing/1995-Ducati-SUPERBIKE-916-5015525986 Dunno what shipping overseas would be but she looks a peach. you can always find local inspectors to do an eval... https://www.schumachercargo.com/uk/motorcycle-shipping-to-uk.html -John
The lister seems to think the bike was supplied with Senna wheels. Not sure why what looks like a ‘95 US model 916 Strada would have Senna wheels as an option but who knows. I’d take it with a pinch of salt anyway. Andy
