just been offered some wheels but are 848 and 1098 wheels a straight fit? I would I know if are off a 848 or a 1098 bike? I need to fit on a 1098 thanks any help appreciated
@Dukedesmo is correct, the 1098 has a large diameter rear axle whereas the 848 is the same as the 998/996/916/748. Andy
Thanks for quick reply Dukedesmo. How can I check looking at the wheels? is the size stamped on them?
Thinking about it, it maybe that a 1098/1198 wheel is 6" wide rather than 5.5" but but I don't know if that's the case? If you look at a 1098 hub on the sprocket side there are 6 bolts/cush drives vs. the 5 on an 848 (916/748/996/998 etc.) and I think the locating pins into the wheel are also further apart. A quick look in workshop manuals suggest that 848 rear spindle is a 38mm thread and 1098 is 48mm, so a 10mm difference but I can't vouch for that.
Would think it probably is, see if you can get an internal measurement of the spindle hole to confirm.
