Battery required for my Omega Seamaster. Do I take it to an Omega dealer or just a competent jewellers? It will get wet but I will not be going in water any deeper than a swimming pool.
If you take it to an omega shop they’ll probably try and convince you it’ll need a service and keep it for six weeks in order to do so, and charge for their service. A local jeweller would of course be able to swap out a battery, this would be a far cheaper option but they would need to be able to guarantee their work qualifies the water resistance specification. Your choice really.
I’d take it an Omega dealer for a battery change or a competent watch repairer certainly not a high end watch to a jeweller.
My Seamaster GMT.. If you notice it has four hands on it and some additional numbers around the dial, the small red pointer is set to Brisbane Australia time where my Daughter lives, they stopped making this version a few years ago now I had this serviced about 4 or 5 years ago, £340 quid !! I felt a bit hard done by,...until I got it back, came in a red and gold Omega case, about the size of a glasses case, inside it had all the parts they had replaced ( and there were a lot of them!) in separate small plastic bags and it also had a new one year guarantee warranty card with it. Genuinely looked like a brand new watch, your money, your choice but I thought it was worth it.. Have been wearing this daily for about 15 - 16 years now even when I’m working on the bike and I’ve clonked it many times and expected a big scratch on it, but not a mark on it, not even the crystal lens has anything on it, bulletproof,..must be made of Kryptonite!
How have I only just discovered this thread! Here’s my Omega Speedmaster 145.022-69ST. The first run of post moon landing watches. Was my Grandfathers who left it to me, he bought it in 1970 after working a bunch overtime to afford it and wore it every single day, as I have since it’s been mine. Part of my feels guilty wearing it everywhere for everything, it’s picked up the odd extra mark, but I just couldn’t hide it away and only wear for occasions. The spring for the manual wind went a few years back and I used https://swisstimeservices.co.uk/ for the repair and service. New crystal, crown and pushers fitted, with all original returned to me, it honestly came back like a brand new watch. Was around £400 at the time I think, but that was a bargain considering Omega wanted to quote separately under their vintage watch service or something but swear was starting at over £700. It gains a minute or two over time and I get a bit of hand creep on hour dial on the chrono but I wouldn’t change it for anything. As sad as it is, one of my favourite parts of the day, is the manual wind of the watch to keep it going.
Good watches like this become family heirlooms to hand down to younger generations, your Moon watch will be a good investment for them as well. I remember watching the antiques roadshow a while ago ( sad, I know!) and the specialist watch guy on there said that in his mind there are only two really good watch brands...Cartier and Patek Phillipe He reckoned that the rest, including some really good Swiss brands were just mass produced items?
I wanted a versatile watch that I can wear every day and for all occasions. I didn’t want a Rolex as it seems to me that everyone has one and there’s also loads of fakes about. I actually think the seamaster is a nicer looking piece than the submariner personally. Omega are a quality brand, possibly a little understated which was very up my street as well. Loads of people have hockey pucks for watches these days, it’s really not my bag. I understand that the omega movement is considered a very good one for the nerds among us. I’m very happy with mine
Mine. Year 2000. Mid size. One service. One new bracelet on PX. Worn and abused every day. Going to my first grandson (if that ever happens).
