Well, I've had a think and realised that i love my SS, even though Its utterly impractical, and when I'm asked what I ride, I want to be able to say, "oh, just this old Ducati..." I'll just grit my teeth, and spend the cash on a few dozen boxes of co-codamol and a 300 quid Renault Clio. Or rent an Astra when I need to go a long distance...
+1 to an ST2, Monster or Mutley. Keep it Ducati. Fazer? A chuffin Fazer!!! Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Why not a Deauville? They're comfy
Don't get me started... Ched, I'd sell a lung for a Guzzi V7 if only they'd give it another 20 horsepower, best looking bike on the road in my opinion. Anyway, spend a few bob on some Variobars or similar to make the SS more comfortable and the job's a good'un
Try an ST, I've got a 3 and its brilliant, plenty of torque, very comfortable, will do your 20 or 250 miles and still leave a smile on your face!
I would try a comfier Ducati like an ST or Multistrada, or even a SportClassic GT, before going to a Jap in line four. I went from a Multistrada 1000S - very comfortable and exceptionally unreliable (or at least mine was) - and now own a Honda CBF1000. YAWN! Already thinking about going back, to an ST3 this time, or sucking it up and saving for a Multi 1200. Also tempted by a Guzzi, but would prefer an 1100 than the V7.
I've not ridden a V7, but I rode a couple of Triumph Bonnevilles (which are a good few bhp up on the Guzzi) and they were woefully underpowered. If you're an experienced rider they just ain't quick enough to keep you interested. Just my opinion of course.
