Don't beat yourself up Matt (not any more anyway :wink. I'd have tried the same move, bollox to passing on the straights, pass anywhere you can. If anything, you took the decision to go on the outside (the gentlemanly thing to do) which is always safer for the other rider as he wouldn't get caught up if you crashed on your own. But (as you know) it put's you in the line of fire if he does something stupid. Glad you're not to badly hurt and as for the bike.... battle scars! Ride with pride They always look worse at this stage, some paint, elbow grease and a couple of shiny new bits and she'll be as good as new :smile:
Sorry for the mishap which i put in the "bound to happen sooner or later" category, whether it is your fault or not. Whatever you do, don't act on the suggestion above. I did once, when I knew I shouldn't. It opened a whole can of worms I should never have opened and I wish I hadn't. In the end, no harm done, but this is fraud. An insurance company quotes you a premium for a certain risk. If their risk is much higher (and on track it is) then, their premium would be adjusted in accordance. Lying to people only creates difficulties. If an insurance company calls your bluff, you are in schiessestrasse.
Sorry bout your off Matt, glad your ok though. Would definately invest in track fairings as you can bin them after and get another set?? Sounds like allot of off's yesterday. It's always difficult to place blame when on a trackday. At bedford I had this guy in novice group who was looking in his mirrors and checking blind spots before turning, he would enter the corner on the race line then exit off it, making it really difficult to judge the passing, he did this all day long and was very slow, I passed him twice in one session?? I have used a painter near Kings Cross, called The End Garage, although it was for my track fairings, i just asked for a quick respray and cheap, and he did a good job for what I asked.

I find the trick with Paddock Hill is to start a little way behind, carry the speed through the corner and take them on the way up to Druids. It was bad luck it happened and even worse luck it was there, it's the deepest gravel trap I know :wink:
Sorry to hear about this Matt. As has been said, I'm glad to hear you're in 1 piece, that's the main thing. Its horrible looking at all the scratches and damage at the moment but it'll all come together and you'll have her looking as good as she did yesterday morning in no time. Sorry to hear about the mishap, but glad you (and he) are all in one piece. These things do happen, and it's not great, but it's life and you are OK. I had an almost identical incident when I caught someone in a chicane once, and not wanting to gather them up when I realised how slowly they were going (doing an in lap and to be honest I should have clocked their speed more quickly), so I decided (wrong move) to stand it up, brake hard, run through the gravel on the outside of the chicane, and rejoin a track on-ramp - thus not risking "rattling them" by catching them up in a tight spot. Turns out riding through gravel at high speed is bloody hard! You realise it is still fast when you hit the gravel, but it seems slow compared to the speed you ride on track, so you think you will just do a Casey and ride through it no trouble. I lost the front after a bit, when I added gas to get through the gravel which turned out to be really deep and I was losing speed. Dropped the Desmo. Bugger. Damage was much like yours. So mainly to my pride and ambition! One repainted bike later and I hardly remember. Rage Designs redid mine for about 500 quid. I won't make that mistake again (but will make others almost certainly!)
At this point its just the tail section that i'm after. Ive sourced a screen and Im being helped with the belly pan. Im going to try to get the rest repainted as they dont seem cracked, but it all depend on price etc. PM me with your prices :smile:
Have you not moved this to 'track day pictures' yet Matt? Good to hear the repairs are coming on already..... She'll be back in no time!
Ouch, gutted to read this! Always one of my big fears too....might seriously look at some cheap fairings methinks. Hope both you and the bike are sorted soon enough
