996 996 Sps Rear Hugger

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by cookster, Mar 4, 2021.

  1. hello chaps, can someone tell me if the 996 sps rear hugger came standard? was it on there originally or did owners put them on or did they just have a chain guard??

    cheers

  2. Not sure any 9**/748 came with a rear hugger as standard. It was certainly in the catalogue. Be interested to see what other people say. Andy

  4. i personally dont like um, but im thinking of putting my standard wheels back on mine and what ever was on it as standard

  5. Silly question but is your swingarm already drilled out for the 10mm mudguard bolt.

  6. There was one fitted to my 748R when I bought it, not sure if it was DP but the rear tyre wore through it eventually. Andy

  7. what you mean bud??

standard swingarm as far as i know

  8. The question based on the 996r that i've tucked away somewhere, and it has NO hole drilled and tapped out with a thread. So perhaps with NO hole then not standard issue from the factory.

  9. mine used to have a hugger on it but had a big hole in it so i replaced with just a carbon chain guard to fit my carbon dymags

  10. So it has a threaded hole but we still don't know if stock from Ducati.

  11. not sure which threaded hole your on about mate?

  13. The carbon hugger was a part available in the DP catalogue of the time (969029AAA or 969446AAA), with the bikes only being delivered with the plastic chain guard/rear brake line guide. No holes were pre-drilled/tapped to support the hugger at the lower RHS - even though the hugger does have a whole there.

Not sure if there are any implications of drilling a hole there, but if you did, the hugger would be much more stable and less likely to wear though..

  14. Glad I’ve seen this. I’ve bought a fullsix rear hugger and chain guard combo for my 998S and couldn’t understand why there wasn’t any right hand fixing point. I’ve got no intention of drilling into the swingarm so probably won’t fit it.

  15. At the bottom front end.:upyeah:

  16. I drilled and tapped an M6 thread into my SPS bitsa for the hugger.

  18. As above, I don't think any had a hugger as standard.

I bought my hugger from QB carbon and it had a hole at the front that corresponded exactly with a pre-drilled hole in the swingarm.

I had to tap a 6mm thread into the swingarm as it was just a hole but it appeared to have been put there for hugger fitting?
