Does anyone know of a luggage rack you can buy that fits on in place of the pillion seat? I never carry a pillion when I’m touring, so it could be handy to have something more suited to attaching bags to. I’ve seen them on GS’. Would be a useful utility.
If my mate can do this touring adaptation to his 996 I'm sure that you can do similar with a spare seat as duke63 suggests. Purists look away now... Pannier support rails are easily attached/removed and pillion pad cover hides platform for regular profile. It's his 'forever bike' so resale isn't an issue. Now on around 45,000 miles with a tour every year since these pics in 2010 (with the exception of last year).
That's outstanding! I love the beer pic! A secondhand pannier seat seems like the way to go. Thanks guys.
a s/h pillion seat and bolting a Palmer Products rack to it would be the best option IMHO. http://palmerproducts.co.uk/
I have a ventura sports rack. You can fit it over or behind the pillion seat. The touring rack does the same
Sadly no cheap s/hand pillion seats on ebay at the moment. In all honesty the seat itself is flat and fairly easy to strap stuff on to, so it's just me daydreaming about new shiny things I can buy for my bike!
I still have my Ventura bag and rack, unlikely to use it again if your interested, we can talk later!
It’s a bit of a different set up on a GS. When you remove the passenger seat there is more like an inbuilt rack underneath it rather than storage. You can get a plate which clips in place of the seat and acts as a rack. I can’t see why the same principle would not work on a Multidrama. Especially if an original passenger seat pan was used as the basis.
