Hi all, just bought my first Ducati..... 2002 900SS. Like the bike, I ain't no spring chicken, 40+ years on bikes. Got into this via a long and convoluted route. Current other bike is 2017 Yammy FJR1300... one of the ones now laid up waiting for replacement 2nd gear pinion under recall. No sign of it happening yet, so thought I needed a bike for the coming summer. Why a Duke? Well back in the dim and distant I had a big Guzzi that I loved....not had another like it before or since. Always had a hankering after a Duke and the one I bought came up at the right price in the right sort of nick. Already getting back into the Italian bike thing, sorting out new bolts for the (inevitably) corroded originals in the brake calipers! The FJR is a deadly long distance tool, and fun in its own way, but I wanted something a bit more light-hearted and equally as fun to ride as my Guzzi was. It was the Guzzi that taught me why Italian bikes have that rep for great handling. Oh well....I'll be finding out very shortly. Great forum, btw. I can see I'll be spending a fair bit of time here!
Forgot your pictures newbie 40+ years especially my bin pics we like them and it keeps me happy welcome into our mad house
Nice bike. I think I have an original brochure for that model. The search is on. 40+ years biking! You should be getting to like it soon
Ok, gotta ask (and show my ignorance) - what does the "ie" designation mean? Is it something to do with the injection?
Could even be a bit more in your face with a couple of judicious (and easily removable) vinyls.....something not a million miles from this.. (Jim Goose, we love ya!) sits back and awaits outraged response...
Cheers mate. Yes, not in the first flush any more but I don't seem to be improving with age. As Marcellus Wallace remarked in Pulp Fiction "yo ass ain't like a fine wine".... But I hope there's a few years left in me yet...
