1260 Screen Options Continued

  1. If you value your long term hearing then try and find some ear plugs that you can get on with?

There was a guy on eBay used to
Sell packs with a mixture of different brands

  2. Thanks for the advice but I'll put up with the wind noise, and the risk;)

  3. Sorry I can’t hear you, I used to ride without earplugs! ;)

  4. Don't panic I didn't say anything. I think you need to know that it was all done on a keyboard ;)

  5. I found the Givi screen (D7406ST) made a massive difference - I could ride visor up at motorway speeds no problem.

  6. When I started riding earplugs weren't a thing, my hearing is now irreparably damaged and will only get worse, more in the left than right ear. Had I known this back then I would have done something about it. Hindsight, a wonderful thing

How tall are you and which seat position?

  7. This thread makes me glad I'm not tall. 5ft 9in and never any serious buffeting even with the OE screen. I now have an MRA with the secondary screen as I broke the OE and I'd say it is better. On the lowest setting it is very good and I only raise it if it is raining for extra protection.
If you want a smooth ride, may I suggest surgery :D

  8. Probably taller than the Ducati test rider :D

  9. I’m not convinced you are that tall Peter!

  10. Same position here.

The tinnitus is worse than the loss of hearing which can be corrected. But the tinnitus is there 24/7 and there is nothing that can be done about it.

  13. I think I've tried enough combinations to give my own educated opinion.
The elements I've tried are the iconic spacers, palmerproducts screen adapters, standard screen, Ducati grand turismo screen, Puig racing screen.
Best combination for my 6ft3 and seat set on high are the palmerproducts + grand turismo screen.
Upper body is properly protected, and I could even ride with my face helmet open.
Buffeting is non-existant up to 60 mph, motorway speed you feel some slight turburlences but nothing that will make you feel like your eye balls are in the washing machine.
Wind noise wise the plugs are still required, but this is definitely the best setup I've found.

Now I'm looking forward to trying Jamie's winglets that John mentions here:

Hope it will shift our paradigm on how to solve one of the Multistrada biggest flaws !

  14. Update: after fitting the PUIG sports screen, I now enjoy riding this bike for more than 30 minutes at motorway speeds. Having been used to naked and sports bikes for so many years. I don't mind the extra noise.

The ride is MUCH smoother now without having my eyes feel as though they are at the end of a jack hammer.

I'm going to order the PUIG touring screen and try that so I have it on hand for my long distance trips. I might get the Palmer spacer things too to test.

But right now, it's perfectly rideable with just the PUIG sports screen and no spacers.

  15. Have a Puig Touring screen, light smoke, as new, if you want it. £50 inc. post to UK. Didn't make significant difference for me but your mileage may vary. Your profile has a Dutch flag but says Reading... confused

  16. From the UK, lived in San Francisco and recently moved to Amsterdam.

I might take you up on the offer and simply have you send it to a families house and I'll pick it up on my next visit.

Would you say it's any better than the standars? I have the spacers for both MRA and standard screens.

  17. Ordered it when I ordered the bike. Had a Puig Touring screen on my MV Turismo and it was night and day compared to the OEM one. Foolishly thought the same would be the case with the Multistrada. Whilst there may have been an improvement it wasn't significant enough for me to stop tinkering. Finally settled on the std. screen but with the Iconic spacers. Acceptable but not perfect.Have to say that I didn't try the Puig with the spacers.

There are quite a few variables at play; rider height, clothing/helmet etc. so your mileage may vary.

  18. I’m 71 and i have been riding for 55 years without ear plugs and my hearing is fine!

  19. Sorry what was that? Still can’t hear you...

Seriously though you are very lucky, I have constant ringing in my ears from the damage to my hearing. Whilst it may not have been caused by bikes entirely it was probably a factor from my days before I used ear plugs (20 odd years) so why take the chance when earplugs offer a safe alternative?

  20. Clearly it isn't a problem for everyone. I've also been riding a long time 40+ years without ear plugs and my hearing is fine.
