  2. Welcome James:)

  3. Very much Brad. I'd like it to be steeper at the rear, but it helps me retain my position as I set up for a bend. Along with the Techspec grips. I also have some of that black grit stair tape cut to fit the leib speed carbon sub frame covers. Basically anything to help me stop sliding forwards too much. It, along with the heat, is the biggest issue with the 1299 for me.

  6. Nope, mid 40’s, locked garage in The Shires, I think it’s something that the underwriters have recently introduced

  10. 2 Up? No chance lol, but good luck to your pillion anyway. Touring? I ride mine to the Alps, bomb around the mountains and ride it back. Generally avoiding autoroutes and staying on departmente roads as much as possible. Dont pack too much, which is a common ailment I see. I take a US20 Kreiga and thats that. For a week. I dont wear rucksacks, they restrict your movement. I have an R15 and never use it.

They run hot though. very, very hot. In Uk mid season its a bonus. In summer when its >30°C, its painful. Esp when slow moving in towns in Southern France. It burns. This is its single most issue for me. Other than that, its a terrific bike. Could use some more low down torque compared to my old 1198, but when it spins up its a freaking missile. I wear leather trousers now without an elastic inner thigh and this helps. But I also run a full Akra and the heat shield is a tad small. Looks good though.

I have a 'classic' style riding a bike. I'm inline and grip with thighs and flick bike. If you are the sort who crawl all over it, you'll get better results. When I do, the thing turns so fast it makes me look better than I actually am. It just doesnt come naturally to me. Hence the tank extension to move me back a bit and to help me grip differently. The brakes are something else. 1198 M4's are awesome, but somehow these are even more awesome. Probably why I slide up tank.

I run my bike with the elec suspension on 'firmer'. Otherwise the rear squats and pumps I find on corner exit. I have EBC on its lowest and TC on 3 or 4. Wheelie control on middle(ish) setting. It'll still put its nose in the air under hard accel.

As a 2nd bike, its great I think as its insane and you may need a more 'leisurely' other bike. Relatively speaking of course.

In the hairpins after hairpins of the alps, the cornering ABS is fucking marvelous. Esp when you have a 1000m drop on one side of you.

I also have a terrible habit of entering motorways at ridiculous speed. Pinning the throttle and banging up on the red light is an addiction. The longer the approach slip, the better.

You can do 30mph on it. You'll be in 2nd/3rd but it will do it. My 1198 complained at anything under 50 and would kangaroo.

  11. There's a few on here hung up on V2 insurance costs, because they tried getting quotes when barely anyone had insured one, it happens with every new model. There is no theft data, or crash data so the insurance company hedge their bets... I just re-insured mine for £245 fully comp, last year in Feb it was brand new as was the bike and I got it through Ducati insurance for £400. I'm 37yr old, full NCD.

Personally I think a 1299s will be just as much to insure if the value is somewhat similar. You will need to think about what suits your riding more though, V2 will be more easy to ride on the road and rev a little harder, the 1299 will be that much more of a grunty delivery that you'll probably have to excercise even more constraint. I think both would handle similarly in honesty.
