So what have you done today..?

  1. You might have a point there. I did consider whether to mention it or not but I thought I’d include it as there seems to be increasing racial tension at the moment. I have to admit I’m getting sick of all this Bame, woke and BLM shit being rammed down our throats at the moment by the media and god knows who. This lad was excellent and had a very good cheerful helpful manner about him and there is, was and should not be any problem. Because there isn’t.

It’s an interesting point that just by mentioning something even in a positive light you can detract.

A bit like if you were chatting up a woman and just to reassure her you were clear of any sexually transmitted diseases you said ‘ Although you used to have VD, you’d had a test and were perfectly clear now, you guarantee it’.

Somehow it’s not going to work is it.

  2. Having reduced the size of the next door’s boundary hedge yesterday, I decide to drag my ancient Briggs and Stratton lawn mower out and hoover up the small debris that I couldn’t be bothered to pick up by hand. What seemed like a good idea turned into an hour faffing around followed by a trip to the local mower repair shop to find out if it’s beyond economical repair or can be bought back to life for another year. It’s raining now so I’m sat scoffing a bacon and sausage baguette, watching a Bentley being built on’t telly. Lazy day in store tomorrow, sitting in waiting for a new TV for Carole to be delivered and then it’s the weekend. Hoorah ! Andy

  6. I don’t have an issue with mentioning race/gender in a positive scenario, I intensely dislike when folk use it at the start of a negative experience as it appears to me they’re trying to reinforce a prejudice.

I used to find the same when reading newspaper reports on court cases, the persons race was only ever mentioned when the accused was non White.

Maybe I need to adjust it to positive experiences too.

  7. Went to the dentist today for a check up. My new dentist found I needed a small filling in one of my pre-molars.

I was quoted over £400 for this!
I told him I’ve had fillings over the years but never before have I paid £400.
So we got ‘talking’ and I asked him to break down and itemise the quote .

Amongst the labour and material costs was a £30 PPE charge.
I suggested the the dental practice should absorb this cost and not put it on the patients , to which his assistant agreed.

Whilst I was downstairs organising my next visit his assistant came down with a new quote of half that of the original

Then later the practice owner rang me to half the PPE charge!

Where do they get their pricing from, a lucky bag?

    Fuckin@ charlatans.

  8. I can't comment on the above prices as i've not had one for a while, but down here we pay £59.00 for the hygienist for around the 20 minute mark.

  9. I just see that there’s not a single reason to include it, regardless of him being great or rubbish really. His race has nothing to do with ability.
If he was a white lad you wouldn’t have even considered mentioning his ethnicity.

I too get sick of a lot of racism cards being played, but stuff like this grates on me as it shows there’s still some deep down ‘opinion’ of other races in people’s minds.

For reference I’m white, I’m not playing the racism card!

If someone is shit at their job you wouldn’t mention their race for fear of being ‘racist’. But if they’re good at their job you would?

    Surely that’s the same thing?

By using race in only a positive experience you’re essentially saying you’re surprised that person was able to do something because of their race, and that’s why you’ve mentioned it.

  11. Are you sure? I paid £339 for a molar crown in white (well off white to match the rest of me gnashers)
Seems a bit steep for a filling

  16. Lockdown must be boring, but dinner in the oven, that's a bit extreme. I'm surprised you can even fit in there, let alone have dinner.

  17. It was the fact that he worked at Halfords and had such ability that surprised me!

Also I notice MotoGp is about to start up soon. That’s a race. Doh! Sorry I shouldn’t have mentioned it.

  18. Fired up a bonfire about 8:30 last night, mostly well seasoned laurel prunings, some old fencing that had been kicking around and bits of tree left after I had a reverted Canadian variegated acer removed. A pile of ash this morning and a clear garden. Upset one neighbour though, who thought the bonfire was too big and sending up too many sparks which might set his fence alight. No idea where he came from because he isn’t one of my immediate neighbours. Andy
