1199 Owner Blown Away By Newly Purchased Facelift 999

  1. You need to get your suspension set up if the above is true, compared to a 999 the 1199 only needs about 50% of the input effort and definitely doesn't need an exaggerated riding style to turn fast.

  2. She's in for suspension setup this week! So hopefully that will improve things.

  3. I disagree Dibble. I generally have an inline riding style or a 'classic' riding style. I find I get better results moving on the bike. This is alien to me but it works and when you do the pani turns faster than anything Ive ever ridden. If I keep my inline style she turns slower. It may be something related, like additional weight on peg or more on bar counter steer whilst Im doing this, I dont know. But theres definately a marked difference and I noticed it straight away once i'd first ridden it thru the juras. Or it could be that Im just faster on this bike than I was on my 1198, which is possible. But my 11 was properly set up and I'd done the juras umpteen times on it. Dont get me wrong the pani is still sweet handling ridden classicly, but she handles even better to rider input.

  4. The more I ride tracks the more I realise and understand how important set-up, tyres and body position are. Assuming the suspension is set up appropriately for body weight and track conditions the 1199 then also demands a keen awareness and application of body position.
The result is increasing grip, smoothness, confidence, later/harder braking and earlier gas. Occasionally I get caught out with a trip to the gravel or most recently a low-side at turn six, Valencia, but it is in the pursuit of better lap times :worried:.

  5. I think you have misunderstood my post, if he is having to ride an 1199 in an 'exagerrated manner' to get it to turn then its set up is shit, I never mentioned an inline riding style, also an inline style will never turn a bike as quickly as amore dynamic style, but a well set up Pani does not require excessive movements or inputs,

  7. All makes complete sense. She's having suspension setup this week (postponed last week), so can't wait to try her out when she's been dialled in and optimised. Shall report back!
