Service costs?

  1. Just priced for my 3rd service with 7k miles on the bike.... £220!!!

For an oil and filter change?... seems a tad excessive to me?

    Anyone else had similar experiences

  2. Depends on your dealer and labour rate. Some dealers are considerably more expensive than others.

  3. Yep, 3 yrs old, 8500m, needs brake, clutch n fork oil on top of the usual at 3 yrs - £420 quoted

  4. Yep , there not cheap , $360 Canadian [ which is basically on par with the US dollar ] for first service , to keep the warranty intact . Most expensive oil change I ever had , I had tightened the chain myself prior to this service .

  5. Buy an expensive bike and can't afford to service it? Sell it and get some cheap hack then.

Bet you've afforded termis, carbon parts, uprated clutch parts, slippers, rearsets and so on...............stop whining.

  6. Not whining , just saying .

  7. I work hard to afford nice things but I'm not a mug...

There is no reason for the basic service to be over £200, its a simple oil and filter change and brake/clutch fluid refresh.

If you are happy to pay through the nose for basic service work because it's an expensive bike be my guest, I will spend the money I save by getting it done using genuine parts and a local garage on termis, carbon parts....

  8. Now I run my own workshop I can see the argument from both sides -

Most have nice premises which come with large overheads - the hourly charge has to cover these.

I quite deliberately have tried to keep overheads low to keep the charge out rate low but my customers see a unit that is functional but not modern in a location that is slightly out of the way.

Some come to me and some go to the main dealer - there is a place for both of us.

  9. Just had the 600 miler done by Riders in Bristol. Oil & filter change, major component tightness check, clean & lube chain, remove rear wheel & deglaze pads (back brake still crap). Total £ 164.40 of which £ 140.00 was labour.
Was expecting to pay about £200/220 total so left feeling happy.

  10. Good news, mine goes in there next week!

  11. I'm very surprised by that as it leaves £24.40 for the synthetic oil and filter???? Anyway not bad considering they have some of the highest labour rates.

  12. Managed to get my first service for free.

  13. £83.50 an hour!

  14. £83.50 an hour ? They spent 3 hours working on the bike.

  15. That's what the service manager in Cardiff told me 3 weeks ago. So they charged you £46.66 an hour?

  16. I was booked in for the 8.30 slot and stayed on site for the duration. Got the bike back around 11.45 after it was test ridden.
The labour cost on the invoice is £120.00 + vat, the hourly rate is not shown.
They could have parked up the bike and left it for an hour or two before doing anything but they were not busy, when I checked it over afterwards I could see signs that it had been gone over thoroughly.

  17. I reckon it was around 1.5 hrs you were charged for.

  18. I have to drop in get my service book stamped so I will ask the question and post the answer.

  19. Plus the charge for disposal of oil !!

  20. Riders in Cardiff charged me £220 for 600 mile service. ??????? and thank heaven for the front brake is all I can say.
