Well, after 6 long months, I am extremely pleased to have my 2010 Multi back on the road with the new cylinder heads fitted Got the annual service thrown in, along with a new rear light, its first MOT, new rear tyre and "another" ECU update (didn't know there was one doing the rounds), which on the basis of the 30 mile ride home, seems to have transformed the low end engine stuttering - it sits at 2.8k rpm in 2/3/4th gears no problem and pulls like a train - hope it lasts? After recently doing 2.6k miles in 2 weeks on an Electra Glide, I can't believe of how tiny and light the MS seems (and fast!!). Got a 2 week trip of the Emerald Isle coming up, so fingers crossed for some trouble free biking?
Due to a water shortage in the Emerald Isle, Cork swimming baths have announced they will be closing lanes 7 and 8.
Brilliant news that. Must have been a bit of a pain to put it mildly. You can stop braking 400 yards earlier now at every junction and lean more than 5 degrees from vertical whilst chugging round roundabouts!!!
What was a pain, not having my bike for 6 months or riding a Harley for a fortnight - lol. Need to try and get some shakedown miles on before the trip to Ireland a week Sunday, but not sure I can find much time, so will just have to go for it.
Re pain - both. Had a play of an Electra Glide Classics many moons ago. Spent the whole journey trying to sort the radio out! Seemed to be stuck on Country&Western !
I got mine back two days ago and was really lucky with a 2&1/2 week turnaround after diagnosis that the high condensation/blue smoke at start-up was the coolant corrosion issue. They did both heads also and changed oil/filter. I didn't get a new ECU update though. How come they took 6 months? Had you notified Ducati through the website and Ducati UK as I think that may accelerate the process. Now to run in for a couple of hundred miles.
Problem with mine was that it was diagnosed just after Xmas, but the heads were not available until late April(ish), so 4 months blown just waiting for bits! Put 100 miles on tonight and it runs better than ever, almost as if it had been in for port polishing, but it sounds like a bag of nails at 3-4k rpm.
They did change the oil and filter didn't they? The coolant would probably have contaminated the oil. I had a Skyhook for a bit and it exaggerates the below 4k roughness getting back onto mine. The new engine is a bit smoother down there.
Oh yes, oil, filter, water, plugs, (so effectively the annual service done for free), new battery (due to the 6 month standing, not on a trickle charger), plus back light which had gone all milky. I have to say that mine is "much" smoother than it used to be - sits at 3k rpm in 2/3rd gear no problem at all (but sounds rough as heck) - guess all the valve and seat polishing may have helped?
Ho Ho Ho! I'll rise to this one even though everyone else won't. Deserves it - even though it's an oldie!!
Only took a couple of weeks from reporting to getting both heads replaced, had a look at the heads that were removed and I couldn't see much there was some scavaging on one head but not a lot else, I would have been very unhappy at a six month delay.
Speaking of heads I wonder if one can replace the broken heads with the new twin spark ones? Easily that is without too much complication?
Funnily enough, I asked that one but apparently the whole wiring loom is different amongst other stuff, so not a straightforward swap?
