V4 Multistrada V4s Recall - Engine Replacement

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by johnny, Mar 27, 2021.

  1. When my engine was swapped out on GS I had to notify DVLA as V5 was in my name. Pre registered ones o expect dealer may do it.

  2. Thanks for coming back, hopefully mine will be something as simple as that :upyeah:

  3. Bike booked in for delayed first service this week. All fine with the bike. It's comfortable, quick and feels a lot lighter than it is. The only characteristics that I'm still getting used to is that it can be a little jerky when you half close the throttle at higher revs. But I guess that's because I am used to a twin. I tend to ride it in a gear lower than should be compared to say a Hypermotard or Monster. On a Hyper/Monster would be 3rd on the V4 I shoud be in 4th. Adjusting my technique to brake and change down later - though should probably be doing that on any bike. Will probably still go for a larger screen, though ruins the look a bit. Rode it around the bumpy back roads of Norfolk and Suffolk last weekend. Suspension set to Auto, but coped really well, despite being pushed. What I like is that you can pootle through a village obeying the 30 and it is smooth and easy. Get to the nationals and just open it up - the airbox howls. I'm still effectively running it in, but it's not slow. A slightly bigger tank might be an idea, as the bike is comfortable enough to go further between fill ups.

  4. I found mine had some Kangaroo juice around 3-4 at partial throttle too. Found it is better in the highest engine mode and when bike has been running for 15-20mins. I also found a fair bit of fork dive so increased manual preload by 25% - no results yet as it is pissing down. One point to watch, i have needed to adjust the chain twice.

  5. Thanks for that.
I thought it was just my crap riding skills.
    So better in Sport mode?
Suspension is fine for me, occasionally when start it up the front forks sag a little, but assume that is the electronic suspension coming to life. Love the suspension, just keep it in Auto and forget about it. Funny, has all these settings....but Auto fine for me. Quickshifter is great, but still prefer to blip the throttle on downshifts, even though blipper is the best I have ever used.

  6. Cheers eejit, it may well be crap riding - i am not the best !
Funny enough i prefer single rider mode to Auto - feels skitish

  7. Out of interest, how far does a tank of fuel take you before the light comes on?

  8. Bike running in at this time so 160-180 Miles, but alos not paid much attention TBH

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  9. Ooh about 10 yards :)
Not really watching it, just as well really.
    Currently averaging 39-40 mpg.
MPG goes up when riding quickly, but really chews fuel around town.

But still running it in and engine really needs to loosen up a bit to improve mpg.
I think the tank could be a little bit bigger, I think light comes on after 150-160 miles, something like that.

Also, still riding like a twin, so need to remember to be one gear higher than a Ducati twin.

  10. Tank range isn’t an issue then. 150 miles and I would be wanting a breather anyway.

  11. A bike could be doing 100mpg but if it only holds half a gallon, it’s economy is irrelevant.

  12. I think it would be ok on a run for MPG

  13. Around 150 miles is pretty much the same as my 1260 and earlier 1200 Pikes Peak Mutli then. So perhaps in the 'real-world' the fuel usage on the V4 isn't an issue! ;)

  14. Before the irrational and illogical fuel warning light comes on, I should have also added.

  15. I'm glad to hear that many have found the MPG to be "acceptable". I've been considering adding the Full Akrapovic exhaust system ( easier to do here in the US) but now the MPG "issue" is back under consideration. You can't get more hp & torque w/o more fuel ( or so I've been told).

My bike is still somewhere in shipping but it's been over 6 months since I put the deposit down! It's shipping with a spare replacement engine to be installed.

Anybody have any experience with the full Akrapovic system on the MTS V4S?

  16.
  17. Fair point RTR, I think the V4 has a 22 litre tank, vs the 20 litre capacity of the 1260, so about 10% greater in size!
Oh dear, not that as several have pointed out here, it's not so much about the mileage, it's more about how you can do them. Either way, you pays yer money and you makes yer choice, so whichever Mutli you have, enjoy it. They really are fun to ride especially when touring. :grinning:

  18. Just had a full system fitted used my Ducati compensation to pay towards it. Cant comment on fuel range as I have only done about 100 miles. It is a beautiful bit of kit ... the sound is awesome....

  19. Did you get the map also? Ditto have one on order but am told no 'official' map out yet

  20. Akrapovic supply a map that is compatible with the Multistrada, Ducati do the rest. The bike runs really well, it is noisy on tick over, even when it switches to two cylinders, the sound when you go through the gears is awesome. Cant wait to complete the run in. Enjoy
