I need to get a seat that is going to allow me to do a full day in the saddle. I have read loads on different options on seats. I thought I was set on the Touratech but then others pop up. So just wondered what people thought. Touratech Sargent Sussex Motorcycles All very on price.
Touratech is probably the most popular choice, far better than the stock or comfort seat. I might have one coming up for sale if your interested?
I use a Wild Ass air/gel cushion on top of my Ducati comfort seat (which is an oxymoron). I had to have my coccyx removed so a pretty extreme case. Andy
It really brasses me off that motorcycle manufacturers produce and sell bikes with uncomfortable seats FFS, in the hope that we’ll pay extra for one that’s comfortable And some of us fall for it
I am 6’3” tall and had a seat made up to allow me to both ride pretty much all day and raise me up to both stop the Crown Jewels from going forward and allow my knees to be more comfortable, I will be selling this seat after Monday 17th May if your interested, new memory foam and recovered with red stitching. I will also be selling other bits from the bike as well.
The Ducati one is very similar but the original Touratech one is a bit softer I think, they have discontinued this now and you can only buy the Ducati version new.
Too many manufacturers do this now, years ago you got the bike and the seat was good for what it was meant to do, obviously they make a basic seat now and accessorise everything now to make money, dont know if its anything to do with profit margins with bikes being relatively small or bike manufacturers want to make even more money, the last couple bikes i have had were an issue, had to change the seat soon after buying the bike, the worst being the MT-10, that was a plank, the DVT is just about ok for a couple hundred miles, barely.
The 1260 Multistrada std. seat was phenomenally uncomfortable, especially for a touring bike. Slid you forward, not at all grippy and had my backside smarting by the first fuel stop and not really wanting to get back on for more. Bought the Touratech one off of a member on here and despite it being quite firm it's a revelation. All day comfort and no looking at the bike in the morning on multi-day trips and thinking "oh no, here we go again...". Bought the pillion version for my GF to plant her butt on when DMC had a half price sale of a container load of surplus parts coming from Italy. I pulled the trigger on that before the ship left home port and happily waited for it to arrive a few weeks later. Bought the comfort seats for my MV Turismo because I had credit at the dealer. Std seat was pretty good to be fair but the comfort seat was slightly better still and looked great. Again bought both rider and pillion seats. The std. pillion seat had a pronounced 'nub' at a delicate place that could be described as exciting for your pillion for a while but too much on longer rides... When I sold the bike the original seats went back on and I recouped most of the investment selling to someone in the States.
Stock seat-not good Touratech-a little better Sargent-perfection 2015 dvt 1200 I've had all three. My best compliment for a seat is you ride all day and don't notice it. Sargent returned my seat in five business days.
Touratech on mine, way better - but be aware they are about 3/4 inch higher than stock. Only a problem if you are short of leg
I’ve had 2 seats done with Sussex Motorcycles and they’ve both been massive improvements on the originals
I tried the Ducati comfort seat which was no better, then Sussex Motorcycles re-shaping which was slightly better, Moto skivvies made no improvement, then I got a Corbin and job done. The Corbin is expensive and not everyone's cup of tea looks wise, but if you want all day comfort there's nothing better. My mates take the piss out of me about my 'armchair' but I always have the last laugh at the end of a long ride watching them wait for their balls to drop back into place, and the feeling to return to their arse, as I jump of my bike fresh as a daisy
My question would be whats you're milage of a full day in the saddle? As I use to do 1,000+ mile journeys a number of years back. Now it would be 700+ miles been a decent days hoonage.
I think the answer to that depends on the sort of riding you do. If you ride 700 miles on motorways at an average of 70mph that would take 10 hours. Conversely if you are riding 350 miles on twisties at an average of 40mph that would take about 9 hours, so the hours in the saddle are almost the same.
