Thinking of taking your Panigale out on Track ?

  1. Panigale at Snetterton today static test 116db fail but was told to do 1 session to warm it through and on the drive by test 82db how's that then???

  2. Bugger!:frown:

  3. Don't a lot of circuits let you pre-test for sound in advance? You might have an extra journey but at least you won't waste the booking fee if you fail on the day?

  4. All Msv circuits will offer you a free noise check ,all you have to do is give tem a call in advance and arrange a time to go down there. It only takes a minute or so, so it is well worth doing.
However the tester will tell you tat it is a guide only as sound can vary day to day due to atmosphere and the condition of the system. For example have it tested then do 1000 miles and there is a chance it would have changes slightly.
As fujack said about the Panigale yesterday at snetterton being 116 then do a drive by for a 82 limit. A static test is a guide for them at the track, it is the drive by that is the main test. This is why sometimes folk will pass a static but still be asked to leave later in the day if they trip over the drive by. This also works in reverse i have seen people fail a static but pass a drive by after a few miles to "warm tings up"

  5. so good it posted it twice  sorry.

  6. re warming up, I'd guess that any small leaks out of the exhaust would close up as the metal expanded, reducing noise 'leaks'. Also, the packing will expand more into the box, increasing its effectiveness.

Stupid if a bike at 116 passes a drive by, but fails the (presumably) static 105 limit. Maybe shows that the testing method is wrong?

  7. Totally. And they must have known that or they would not allow on track. In my experience, these guys will fail you if you're on the limit never mind 11db over it

  8. Tell me about it, my 1098s in standard cans recorded 103db. Took it to Brand 97.5db. But yes, Snett is great :)

  9. Does anyone have an update on this issue? I read that Ducati were talking to track owners, but I haven't seen any conclusive outcome.

I'm seriously considering buying a Panigale and a significant portion of my planned riding will be track days, so good to know in advance if this going to be a problem.

    Thanks,
    Ian

  10. They are fine to take on MSV circuits for day use but you will be hard pushed to do evenings as most circuits with the exception of cadwell that has the same noise limits in the evening as during the day.

  11. or Brands GP at anytime, which has a max of 102db :frown:

  12. There were loads on donny the other week.

  13. Though, the following text cut from the advert for the upcoming Ducati day at Brands Hatch GP displayed on this site, seems to open the door in a very vague kind of way:

[h=2]Noise[/h]The Donington day was classed as noisy, but sadly Brands Hatch will be enforcing a 101db limit for the day. After speaking with somebody in the know inside Ducati about possible problems with the noise of the brands flagship model, the Panigale, we were told:
‘The owners of the track cannot guarantee the noise issue as they don’t know what people will turn up with. But they and Focused Events are aware that the Panigale is noisier on static than on ride-by. They have indicated that within reasonable limits, they’ll take a sympathetic view on static, but cannot on ride-by. I’ve asked and neither Focused or Motorsport Vision have reported any major issues with the Panigale this year ’

  14. I was at Cadwell Park on the 15 & 16th. First day the scrutineers put the sound meter at 45 degree to the bike and it tested at 105.

Second day there was different scrutineers. As one of them stepped forward to test the bike at 45 degrees another halted them saying "Oh, we've received an instruction on these, they have to be tested from the rear". The Pani test at 98db.

Looks like MSV have sent an instruction around to the scrutineers. Whether they've read it is another matter.
