  2. I just don’t understand why anyone would make changes like this to their bike?
    Good luck claiming in your warranty if it ever goes wrong.

    The only times I’ve ever even looked at the temperature is when I’ve been stuck in traffic in the middle of the Summer and the fans start running in overdrive!

  4. Well mine warms up fine and runs normally so I guess Ducati must have done something right with mine (for a change).

    Good luck with your amateur plumbing experience, I’m sure you know way more than Ducati do...
     
  5. @Duncan* hats off to you.

    When I went in for my valve service all the valves needed adjusting and I was more or less blamed for them being so far out of tolerance, saying I obviously hadn't let the bike warm up sufficiently before riding off. Well I let it tick over till it reaches 60 and then go. Often during the winter it will drop below this figure whilst riding thus causing extra wear to the engine etc. I like your solution.

  10. If like me you've missed this previously, then I think it deserves a bump up. Im lucky enough to own sufficient kit to make these parts so I'm about to give it a go. Thanks Duncan.

  13. Does this apply to all forums? If that’s the case I might as well disconnect the broadband.

    Anyway, I see the logic in your post, but thinking about it, my bike rarely sees those temperatures. It’s not something I spend a lot of time looking at but I’d guess mine runs around mid to high 70s, rising quickly in traffic.

    I’ve no idea what that means but I do have a question: is there a confidence that the thermostat and gauge are calibrated accurately?

    Don’t take it as criticism, it’s stuff like this that have made specific bike forums an absolute must. I know, I owned an Aprilia……

  16. If Ducati rated a thermostat at 65⁰c why would you need to run it hotter ? Surely they wouldn't put something on a bike that would damage the engine internals by purposefully running it too cool ?
     
  17. The optimum temperature for the Aprilia RS250 was only 55⁰c so I don't see it as unreasonable that the Multi operates in the low to mid 60's. I've used the tape method when running at low revs in cold conditions for long periods of time.

  19. Duncan, its not weird that Ducati use a thermostat (on almost all of their water cooled bikes for the last 30 years) which has an opening set point of 65c. That is the coolant temperature that the engine is designed to run at its most optimum efficiency and is far from unusual for water cooled petrol engines in cars and bikes. The temperature set point for the cooling fans are set purely for safety reasons, with some safety margin, to prevent engine overheating and the risk of coolant boiling (with or without antifreeze). The bikes cooling system is designed to run in all sorts of environments much hotter and cooler than the UK and they still use the same spec thermostats. There is perhaps an issue with some of them running a little cool in very cold weather when the coolant does not reach a high enough temperature for the thermostat to open. The engine management system adjusts the mixture by constant feedback from the coolant temperature thermistors.
    You are trying to fix a problem that does not exist.

  20. Riding a Multistrada is refreshing following a Panigale whose engine temperature is always over 104c.
