In case Supervee is listening, I apologise for this most exciting of threads, but when help is needed you just gotta ask. I have: 1 x 2013 ducati Multistrada 1 x Garmin Zumo 350Lm I would like to bring these 2 marvels of technology together in holy matrimony in the most tidy and aesthetic manner possible. Anyone got one of these: Sat Nav Mount Ducati Multi-Strada 1200 'Handle Bar Fitted' Zumo 660 and Zumo 350LM | Motorrad Innovation Design Limited or these?:http://navihalter.de/shop/article_M...49tX0IKoLGaWAg&shop_param=cid=31&aid=MS%20II& Or do you have another solution? What say you (and post some pics)?
From my experience the handlebar mount is too low, it means dropping the eyes too far off the road ahead, The Navihalter puts the sat nav in the ideal position, they are both a bit pricey however I would shell out the extra for the Navihalter. I wouldnt mind seeing one in the flesh or better photos before spending. as a temp measure the flexible ram mount on the handlebars would do the job.
+1 for the Navihalter. I have one for my Zumo 660, as do a few others on here. Fitting instructions with pictures in this thread: http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/request-details-german-satnav-holder-1497/
Not wanting to 'hi jack' a thread but i'm also looking for a similar thing. Garmin 350LM that I am borrowing off a mate who has it hard wired into his Suzuki. So I need a cheap mounting that will do for a few days away. I was looking for something that would fit to the bars and that could be with me before next Friday. Any advice boys ??
I have a 2013 Multi. I find that if you had the 1st one. The screen would see the sky too much and you wouldjust see the reflection of that and not the sat nav. i.e. you would just see a white screen as a reflection. The second one would not work as you need to adjust the screen. In my experience you need to turn the screen so it is nearly facing you to stop any glare, so you can see the screen properly outside. I use a 1 inch ball joint on the bars, with an extender. These parts RAM Mount UK RAM Mount UK
I'd definitely go for the Navihalter. I've got one for my Garmin 350LM and, apart from the finish that's not all it's cracked up to be, more or less perfect. It places the sat nav inside your screen bubble above the dash and in your sight line without obstructing your view. I had a bar mounted mount before and found that I kept looking down to see the route taking my eyes off the road. What's more I couldn't use a tank bag because that obstructed the view of the sat nav. They are expensive and a pain in the arse to order off the German language only web site, but worth the effort. If you do decide to go this route make sure you specify the Garmin 350LM back plate or the holes for your powered mount won't line up. Alternatively second hand ones do pop up for sale on the Forum occasionally.
Okay I take it the 2013 model has a different screen mounting system then? Nevertheless I'd still try to mount it behind the screen. Navihalter may have a version for the 2013 model though I haven't checked.
Im not familiar with the mounts you are talking about. If you mount the Sat Nav above the LCD instrument panel in a 2013 you would not be able to adjust the screen with the new 'squeeze and adjust' adjuster. If you are talking about something else then I apologies.
Just ordered one day before yesterday for a 2013. Hopefully should get it early next week. From the link above. "navi motorcycle, Ducati Multistrada 1200, from 2013" "Access to one-handed operation of the windshield is only minimally more difficult. The adjustment of the windshield remains intact."
Ram mount seems good. Thanks for this Phantomfighter. It looks the simplest and quickest solution. The navihalter is much dearer and having just bought the bike the sat nav and an intercom, I can't justify forking out another £100. I'll see how I get on with the Ram mount and decide later if i have to have the GPS above the clocks (which actually seems a much better position than lower down). BTW did you use the hardwire connector to the battery supplied by Garmin or did you wire into the dedicated GPS wiring in the bike's loom?
I bought a Garmin independently so didn't have that fancy connector. Have a look on here or with Andy-I forget his name. There are pictures showing where the wire. I just solder my fitting onto the wire and hey presto it turns on with the bike.
The Navihalter on a 2013 model clamps onto the top of the screen adjuster. As the screen is more swept back than the 2010-12 models, the mounting positions of the Sat Nav are limited and a bit closer to the rider. I've only done about 300 miles using it but so far it's good apart from making the screen adjustment a lot more difficult, I can't do it on the move anymore but it's OK when stopped. I had the Navihalter on my 2010 Multistrada and got used to reading the display without using the audio prompts, which I found not that useful and too intrusive over the top top of music. Steve B
Thanks Steve, quality photos, I had a mine in the same position on my 2011 using a home made bracket, ideal position for ease of viewing. Like you I don't care for the sound, visuals suffice, I always found the voice commands to be a bit previous compared to the screen. Jimmy
