Today, my Hypermotard has got the tires it really deserves. Brand new Michelin Power Cup 2 They are already homologated by premium manufacturers such as KTM, on the KTM 890 DUKE R ... 4% of the tire's tread constitutes pattern tracks and is therefore homologated.
Got out for a quick blast to grab some last minute Xmas food today! Forgot how much fun this is (though the dash lit up like a Christmas tree after a few wheelies... and then it started losing power after a few miles... it seems fine now it’s been turned off and on again though!)
First ride out the new RVE yesterday. Very cold and damp roads but what an amazing bike! Couldn’t resist it so went out again this afternoon managed to catch the sun setting!
Thanks I love the Hypermotards still but for a brand new bike with a lot of electronic gizmos the 790 won the day, if I could have stretched another 3.5k I’d have gone with my heart but my head told it otherwise. I don’t find my 790 particularly nice to look at but it doesn’t offend me and whilst riding all I look at is the road and my speedo.
To be honest I haven’t even seen a ktm 790 on the road yet. I have owned a few ktm dirt bikes over the years and loved them! Never had any major issues.
Have you compared it to the 890 yet? That bike as had rave reviews so just wondering how it compares to yours.
I haven’t, most who have a 790 on the FB page and have test ridden one think the 890 is the bike KTM should have built in the first place. Some have chopped their 790 for a 890 so must be enough in it for them to swap. As the price increase is a fair bit, at the price the 890 is I’d probably be tempted more to buy a Hyper 950 though. I’m in no position to move up and in all likelihood my next bike will be the Husqvarna Norden as that’s set to be released with the 890. Hoping they’ll do 2 versions of the Norden 1 with a offroad set up the other with a more road biased setup.
You will pay a premium for anything with the word Husqvarna in front. It does look good though. Hope you manage to get your hands on one.
Yes, but it looks different enough from all the other offerings in that class it may well be worth the premium, I’m going to guess at 10k ish. If it rides as well as it looks then for me that’s fine, don’t see it being cheaper than KTM’s Adventure bike.
