  1. Hi,
Newbie here with a 900SS IE on a "W" plate 2000. Bike has stood for a few years and the battery is kaput. What do you guys recomend ? Lots of different makes on ebay for varying prices. Do you go for sealed batteries ? I have AGM batteries on my Yams, but the prices for Motobats on Ebay must be wrong - £500 odd . Whilst I am here, which oil do you recomend - fully synth, semi ? There is a sticker on the clutch casing suggesting Shell Advance Ultra 4, so I pressume that's what 's in it at the mo.

    Thanks

    Regards

    Dusty:wink:

  2. Yuasa batteries, any quality full/semi synthetic oil. :upyeah:

  3. Go to this site Motorcycle Batteries with free UK delivery & cheap next day shipping available.

The battery stands upright so no real need for an AGM but its your choice. It could have any oil in at present all Dukes have that sticker on from the factory. I use fully synth in my wet clutch DD bike with no probs but its expensive at £50/4ltr

Semi- synth Motul is about £35 ish and plenty good enough for a road bike.

  4. Get the best price you can for the battery, not a lot between them, about £60 is a decent price point. Oil - Motul, Shell, whatever and semi synth is enough for road use. Undo and clean and protect as many electrical connectors as you can get at, especially ignition, battery, starter solenoid, switches and earth points.

  5. Hi, Thanks for the advice fella's, Will get onto it. Regards Dusty

  6. Hi, update on the battery. Followed the link and ordered a Yuasa from MD. £57.00 and delivered next day, so I added the acid and gave it a charge. Fitted it to the bike and all the electrics work as they should. Then I went for the starter button, and she fired straight into life, and omg, what a beautiful sound from those pipes. My neighbour started getting her washing in as she thought a storm was coming !!. Ticks over fine, although I only ran it for a couple of minutes. The oil was new just over 100 miles before the bike was parked up, so I thought it wouldn't need changing. Gonna book it in to MDR for the belts and an MOT next. Thanx for the help.Regards Dusty

  7. Defo change the oil ,life blood of the engine, the oil will deteriorate over time. Not worth the risk,it's a given.

  8. [h=1]Shell Advance Ultra 10w/40 4T Fully Synthetic from Busters on ebay @ £34 inc p&p. Oil

  9. Not sure about 900ie but the recommended oil spec for the ST4 has now been changed by Ducati to a 15-50 oil.
