1260 Ducati Multistrada 1260 V4 !! 190hp

  1. It sounded like it had a dry clutch - was around 1600 miles on it - so run in.

  2. I've got a test ride on one tomorrow, to see if it can attract me away from my 1200 enduro.

    Maybe I missed it, whats the story with a 17" front for next year, is it confirmed or just what you want @Simon Audi ?
     
  3. There was ome recent spy shots of the multi with a SSSA and 17" wheels.... so the assumption is they will bring a new PP or Similar Model out next year.... but its still assumption... My dealer also said the same to me that it is probable.
     
  4. It will come with a hefty price tag if there is one.

    I can easily see all bikes going up 5% come the end of this year. a PP version is likely to be at least £23k minimum i suspect.

    Nice bike, rides really well, dash is nice, but I'm just not sure.

    It feels bigger than a 1200DVT, and not far off the size of my Enduro. It rides very similar to my enduro too in terms of turn in and direction change, as you would expect. It has loads of power and pulls well in all gears. They seem to have set the gears closer, as I was up into 6th much sooner than I would be on my V Twin bikes.
    My mate who came along for a ride said I could have just as easily been riding a Honda, and I agree. In his view it looks like an Africa Twin.

    The bike is real nice, I can see the appeal to some, but not sure its for me as I dont want radar and won't use sygic as I'm happy with my Garmin.
    Finance wise its achievable / comparable, but I just can't find a compelling reason to swap my enduro for one.
    It didnt press the 'I must have one' button.

    I'm feeling a little disappointed really. I wanted to love it and really want one, but I don't.

  6. Thats a very fair and honest assumption, and one that i feel i will also echo and agree with and ive not ridden it yet. My mate takes delivery of his next week, so ill have a go on that and make my own decisions, but cant help feeling its not going to blow me away over my 1260PP, maybe the planned mention of a Pikes Peak or sportier version planned for 2022/23 might grab me more.. who knows..?

  10. Test rode a V4S 'Full' today. It had 2000 miles on the clock. I've owned a MTS 1200 AND 1200 DVT.

    When I set off my reaction was this is a V4 trying to be an L Twin......surprised as hell by that but it's about my expectation.

    Clutchless changes were amongst the best I've experienced. Found myself changing up as it has flexibility and torque ( I'm aware the diehards say it's not as torque full as the L Twin DVT). Then I started to ride it on its revs and 4th and 5th are ballistic allowing sportbike overtakes. After an hour on twisties and some faster roads, it was at 38 mpg.

    The brakes from high speed seemed 'wooden' with the discs squealing. I wonder if the weight of the bike is the issue. They seemed to be working hard to stop the bike.

    The turn-in and balance is very predictable with the bike holding the line and easily adjustable.

    The seat is OK and surprisingly low aiding stability at a stop. The clutch is very easy to modulate.

    So I came away a little confused, a V4 that masquerades as an L Twin.....but it is definitely a Ducati.

  11. No, it was pretty quiet in terms of mechanical noise.

    @roundincircles i agree with your review. The quick shifter was so smooth I had to actually look at the screen to know it had changed gear in higher gears.
    I thought the brakes were 'ok', but how they would fare when pushing on fully loaded might be a different story. They certainly didnt feel as good as the M4s I have on my old multi, despite supposedly being the same as those on the Pani etc.
     
  12. In Riders, Bridgwater yesterday and spent all of 1 minute re-looking at the V4S in the showroom. Didn't want to sit on it and still don't like anything about how it looks.
    No interest either in taking one out for a test ride. 1260MTS it still is then!:p
     
  13. Interesting points, and frustrating that he couldn’t get the bike with the radar it should have come with. Like a large percentage of folk, he wants a Multistrada, not a GS clone.

    5000 Global Sales in 6 months? is that good or bad for a new model? Does not sound like it is selling as well as the 1200 DVT did when it launched in 2015?

    But I do not have the numbers to compare.
     
  16. Tried to find historical numbers because Ducati are not a volume producer like Honda. Ducati sold 48,000 bikes world wide in 2020. To sell 5000 of just one model in 6 months is a good effort. Andy
     
  17. There is a back log on orders for the V4 Multi at the factory. They are currently only building bikes to individual customer orders.
     
  18. I popped into Worcester Ducati yesterday, there were 5 GS's in the showroom all under 4 years old, I asked the sales guy if they'd all swapped for the V4 and yes, they had. So it's working, they are pulling sales from BMW which I'm pretty sure is what the strategy of the V4 is all about. Gaining a larger percentage of GS sales will be more profitable than pleasing the existing Multistrada owners.

  19. Which is why I'm so glad I got one the few remaining Multistrada 1260 S GT's with all the extras such as full termi system, top box and a few other bits. Ducati Amsterdam said my order was the last they were taking. I love the low down torque, its where the bike is used most and I'm sad to see that Ducati are moving away from their iconic engines just to stay competitive in the power numbers game.

  20. There is a reason for that, the factory stopped production for a number of months last year. As a consequence they are playing catch-up.
    They have also changed from demanding dealers submit a forward commitment (which transfered risk to dealers) and now simply want them to submit customer orders. This could be due to not being able to actually build enough in time, or because they have switched to the automotive model of ordering.
    This should mean everyone gets the same wait, but in practice it doesnt as they are still batch building models, plus if a cancelled order is still built a dealer may get a specific bike very quickly (sounds great but not ideal if said dealer has told a customer the bike wont arrive for a few months based on expected delivery at time of order).

    I don't think its any surprise they have pulled orders from previous GS owners. One of my mates has done just that.
    The bizarre thing is BMW bought out the XR to try to go head to head with the Multi, and Ducati seem to have forgotten that bit.
    Or maybe there will be a more sports tourer oriented version, more than just a Pikes Peak style version. I also wonder what they will do with the Enduro model, that was essentially targetting the GSA. Will that become a V4 version too, or remain a 1260...
