Just took delivery of a DVT Multi (2016), I prefer to use my phone for navigation and to view calls whilst riding. As visible in pic I have the standard sat nav mount. Is it possible to attach a phone mount to the sat nav mount? I like the height/positioning of the mount. Ive done a bit of research but could find anything. All help\advice greatly appreciated
That's not the std DVT mount. That only fitted the 3xx series Garmins. It looks like you have a regular AMPS plate, albeit somewhat butchered. This should provide the means to mount your phone, you just need a suitable cradle which will mount to the AMPS pattern. Try searching Google using you phone model and "AMPS cradle".
Couldn't find anything, any links? Any old phone cradle will do. You’ll just need to make it fit Any recommendations? I couldnt find anything
Dunno what phone you want to use, but Ultimate AddOns do a variety of cases, all of which attach to their AMPS mount adapter.
Before you go ahead and buy a case/mount etc, this is worth a read. When I read your thread, I remembered my mate telling me about his own iPhone issues. Not saying it would happen to you but something perhaps to be aware of. https://advrider.com/f/threads/iphone-11-pro-camera-failures-due-to-vibration.1432567/
Yep, heed the wise words of Shoboshi, the vibration problem is real! Me and my brother are just back from a few days riding around Cannich in the Highlands and his iPhone 11 camera was knackered after day one! My bruv got a new Quadlock phone mount for his phone and Quad Lock recommend you also buy a vibration dampening widget that goes between the phone case and the bar mount but he didn't bother ordering that bit, thinking it is probably some rare issue that a tiny number of people have had and he never had a problem with his previous iPhone/Quad Lock. But when he went to take a picture at our campsite the camera was no more - the image stabilisation just judders and makes a clicking sound and photos come out all blurry. I don't know what solutions other phone mount producers have come up with but if you're buying a Quad Lock for your iPhone 11 then spend that extra £20. And if you're creating your own mount think about how you can dampen the vibrations. Here's a link to the Quad Lock vibration dampener. https://www.quadlockcase.co.uk/products/vibration-dampener?variant=32019364905075
The Ultimate AddOns cases have a silicone inner that should help with shock absorbsion, Can't say if it'll save any particular model of phone though. My best mate and touring buddy made his own mount for his iPhone (early model) and he had issues with the lightening port going bad due to lack of support and it wiggling around. The UA cases and their silicone inner also helps with that holding the lead in position. I bought one for one of my earlier Samsung phones and was impressed with it. However, that was a backup to my Garmin and never got used. If anyone here is still running a Galaxy S6 and wants it let me know and it's yours.
I still have my iPhone 6s and use an UA case. Currently without issue. I think, from reading the attachment above, it seems to start with the 11 model. My phone mounts directly to the bar clamp, which I’ve modified to mount centrally.
