2021 Supersport 950

  1. I have to say that TFT is a big improvement over the original one. I hate the ugly bland grey LCD screen, especially as I moved from my former 748's classic round dials to that lump of plastic. Congrats on the purchase.

  2. I personally don’t mind the grey LCD but, I’m used to old fashioned clocks so this is Starship Enterprise compared to the Triumph I had before, not used to so much info on a bike

I would trade for the new model but can’t justify the expense. Love my SS

  3. I wonder if anyone will try to fit the new TFT screen to an older model.

  4. Have they changed the seat ?
I have a comfort seat for sale but not sure if it just fits the earlier model or both.

  5. After extensive research sat on my backside at my computer, I have deduced that a Supersport S is gonna be my choice when a)my leg gets strong enough and b) I get my license back (although no idea when that will be). Others that are both cheaper and are attractive competitors, where the Aprilia RS 660 and the KTM Duke R.

The KTM lacks a fairing (which I want) and the Aprilia has a weird exhaust and a mad big swing arm. Having had a single-sided swing arm on my various Monsters for years, I know what an advantage they are. That, as well as the superior looks and engine of the Ducati, nailed it for me.

Not sure yet how much I will spend (and don't have to worry about it, either) but my original budget was £10k and I know this is sufficient for a good used one from a Ducati dealer. Although I still reserve the right to blow the budget and get WTF I like!

Plenty of time to ponder as I need to finish the valve check on my ST2, in order to part-ex it.

My sister reminded me tonight that she will never speak to me again if I ever ride a bike again! Minor problem compared to the shit and pain that I've had to put up with over the past two years!

I will probably buy a car next, which I said that I wasn't going to do. I'm hoping that the car might act as a distraction! And I may do my IAM car test!

Have this to play on while my 900ss is in having the carbs cleaned.
Seem very well put together with the exception of the fairing in the nose

  7. Mine fits really well there! Must be whom ever hammers them together I suppose

  8. Recently collected my new red Supersport 950S. I previously owned a 2017 Supersport S and, after 350 miles, I can say that there are more differences between them than just the obvious visual ones. It's clear that Ducati have listened to their customers in designing the current model.

    In no particular order:
    - I can find neutral as easily as on my Honda CB1000R and the gearbox and DQS are a pleasure to use.
    - The hydraulic clutch is a dream, particularly when the bike is cold. The old cable clutch when cold was on/off and really nervous-making when starting out in traffic. The new one is really easy to finesse and feather by comparison.
    - Fuelling is near-perfect in all settings.
    - There's a clearer distinction between all three riding modes than on the old model. Urban is just lovely round town with no jerky responses or surges. Still goes like stink in 1st or 2nd if you need it though. Meanwhile, Sport mode is a real contrast and real fun on the open road, even though I'm having to short-shift while still running it in. Touring is - well - meh. Maybe I'll use it if I just want to bimble.
    - there's 2 sets of luggage straps under the pillion seat so I can fit my Kriega bags when touring, without having to fit extra straps as I did with the old bike.
    - Love the self-cancelling indicators - the only physical evidence of the existence of the IMU that I can detect. Still, maybe it'll save me one day.
    - I don't know if Ohlins have changed the settings on their forks and shock for the new model but the suspension is just wonderful. It's plush and soaks up the potholes and ruts of southern England roads while at the same time giving great confidence in bends. I just know I'll be quicker on this bike in the twisties than I was on my more powerful (143 bhp) CB1000R, simply because of the improved handling. I put this down to both the chassis and the suspension. The Pirelli Diablo Rosso 3 tyres are just perfect for this bike, but then they were for the old Supersport as well.

All in all, a big improvement and I would say definitely worth an upgrade if you can manage it.

  10. Only small changes to this generation but they’ve definitely finessed it into a very good bike. Having owned two Multistrada DVTs this is different but equally as complete, and a great road biased sporty bike. I never quite sold myself on the 939 but the 950 really ticked all the boxes.

  11. For me there is still not enough to warrant the upgrade to a new one. I get on fine with the clutch, would be nice to have the fuelling better as it is a bit choppy round town. I believe the suspension and tyres are exactly the same as is the chassis. I am ok with the looks and think they both look great. Would like self cancelling indicators though and the new screen would be nice, but again not enough. If they had given it a bit more power that would be the upgrade for me and I would be in the dealer tomorrow, not a lot as I don't want it to lose its usability, but another 10-20bhp would be welcome. I expect that to come in the next upgrade and will wait for that I think

  12. That's strange, my 2017 has 4 straps under the seat for the Kriega, as did my wifes 2018 Monster 821.
The BMW R1250RS has none! But not too sure if we need the Kriegas anymore.

  13. As does mine, but they are fixed to the seat not the subframe. I don't like they way the pull up the rear of the seat when the straps are tightened so I fitted additional ones using screws that are under the seat, fixing them to the subframe.

  14. I bought my 2017 939 SSS in March 2017 so it was one of the earliest. I suppose it's possible that Ducati added the second pair of luggage loops quite soon afterwards. Either that or I got the only bike with just the two. That would be normal for me!

Interesting though about the rear of the seat lifting when the Kriega straps are tightened - don't like the sound of that. I always loop a Rok strap around bag(s) and seat as an extra security measure in addition to the Kriega straps. That might mean you could avoid the danger of over-tightening and possibly damaging the seat or the seat lock mechanism.

  15. I never pulled my straps that tight, better to let the Kriega have a little slack rather than be rock solid.

  16. Have they improved the mirrors?

I've only had my Supersport S 2018 model for couple of weeks, love it to bits. Lovely bike. Mirrors are pants though, to much vibration.

  17. I changed my 2017 supersport s for the updated version, still in the faster red and after 3 years of ownership (of this latest model) think this should have been the one supplied in 2017.
    • The clutch is smoother.
    • The looks are easier on MY eyes.
    • The dash is TFT with much more aids.
    • Acceleration appears to be smoother.
    • Same ohlins shock, i must just have it set up better?
    • I've kept the stock exhaust as i never liked the sound of the Termi on my 2017 and can't afford the full Akro.
    • Improved mirrors are still rubbish :-(
