Engine Details - F02028

  1. Hiya,

I’m new to the group and looking for some advice.

Earlier in the year I purchased a rolling 996 project. The original engine went pop and the previous previous owner purchased a new engine and tried to build it up, however the project was abandoned and left in the back of a garage.

Fast forward a few years and I’m now nearing the end of the project BUT, the engine the previous owner purchased is a bit of an unknown so I’ve bought a stock 996 one. The question I have is about the Frankenstein engine. The known details are:

    998 engine (sand cast)
    Engine number F02028
    Corillo rods
    Oversized pistons

I believe it’s a WSB engine but would love to know more. As I now have this engine as a spare I am keen to know what it’s history is, and any recommendations as to what I should do with it (see pics) I.e do I build it up with original race parts and fit. Sell it as is, or strip it and sell it. If I do sell it are there any thoughts on what it’s value is?
Any help, guidance and advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Simon

  3. I wouldn’t try for the next few days, it’s the 1st round of the BSB this weekend. Andy

  4. Give ex Ducati John, John Cellier a ring. He worked on a lot of these race engines.
