1299 1299s

  1. A 1290 Superduke that is what you should buy if looking for mental low-down torque ;)

  2. Get the Akra, Hi flo airfilter, Upmap and 15/41 sprocket. Turn the DWC 1 DTC 1 or 2 ABS 1, it will be transformed.

  3. Agreed. The way the front end snaps up with a sniff of throttle is ridiculous. But fun :D

  4. 1198 with a alloy tank is what I was looking for originally....

  5. 37 miles !!! Perhaps you should have bought an 1198s with higher (leggy..er) mileage ;)

  6. The bottom end of an 1198 is fatter than the 1299. It’s a nice lazy engine.

  7. I'd recommend riding one before coming to any conclusion. Tall gearing can easily be addressed by increasing the rear sprocket size.

There's a good reason why Ducati developed the V4 Panigale. With the 1299 they'd taken the twin as far as it could go, in terms of an engine designed to produce maximum power.

  8. I've done the fastest bike thing for years, now I fancy looks and noise. That, and someone that sells V4's for a living reckoned a S1000RR laps quicker.

  9. Nah, any 1*98 with over 10k is past it's best...

  10. I had a gen3 rr, mental pick up and drive from 4rpm, never ridden another bike since with such stomp.

1 sprocket down always made a difference on previous ducatis (996 and 848) but i'm not sure on the 1299 but helps with chain length issues.

  11. Nonsense, I sold mine at 17.5k and it was better than the day I bought it. Theres lots of well cared for 1198's out there. But as for noise, the 12 beats it. For stomp out of a slow corner, then the 11 beats the 12. But the 11 could understeer sometimes and needed to be forcefully turnt. My old 11 would drop matey on his sthou or on his r1m out of slow corners typically found in the alps. It would also drop him on fast uphill sweepers. I miss my 11 so much, I'm considering buying another and selling the 12. I'd buy an 1098R if I could.

  12. I concur, there's nothing out there with that much low down grunt

  13. Nostalgia is no substitute for reality, the 1198 is not superior to the 1299 or at least one with the correct gearing.
source; my riding mate has a Bayliss and we err do experiments :)

    Power 126.8 kW (170.0 hp) @ 9,750 rpm (claimed) 117.75 kW (157.91 hp) @ 9,600 rpm (rear wheel)

    Power 205 hp (150.8 kW) @ 10,500 rpm (claimed) 174.8 hp (130.3 kW)@ 10,400 rpm (rear wheel)
    Torque 106.7 lb-ft @ 8750 rpm (claimed) 94.2 lb⋅ft (127.7 N⋅m)@ 8,500 rpm (rear wheel))

  14. You can have as many figures as possible but if the nut is loose on the seat there is no comparison :bucktooth:

  15. No Ducati gave my S1000RR a hard time, in the 6 years/11K miles that I had it. TBH they were easy to beat. I don't believe there are better brakes than my gen 2 had either. I only paid £11200 for it brand new too.

  16. I tested a s1000rr before I bought my 1299s, as I wanted to see what the difference was like,

I found the BMW powerful but slightly boring (this was a test ride on roads) and it needed revving to stay with my then 999r.
I guess its like comparing apples to oranges a bit, due to the motor configuration differences,

I ride with my mate on his s1000 on track and his was an ext SSTK machine with 220 ps ( is claim not mine) and top end its very quick, but low down he doesn't get away from my 1199 coming out of the corners.

  17. If they were easy to beat, then they weren’t really trying. Sthou brakes are mediocre at best. Only real weak point of a terrific bike.

  18. Brake set up on the high end Ducati’s are far better than the S1000RR. The gen 4 (latest BMW) the brakes certainly require upgrade for even mediocre track work. OE brakes are shite. Adequate for the road I guess but that’s it.

  19. Even my 40mm Brembos on my 916 would outbrake an sthou. Probably lol o_O
