Hi all, In the early hours of Friday morning (2am), I witnessed my own motorcycle being stolen and my neighbours. I was walking my dog and I saw a van along side 7 masked men run out of the underground garage. I went to check and yet, they stole my bike and my neighbours (BMW 1200 GS). Information: Dutch license plate for my bike: 02-MN-HS (Dutch) Mileage: ~7k km Model: Ducati Multistrada 1260 S GT Upgrades: Evotech liquid and oil radiator guard (black), Evotech front exhaust cover (black), Evotech long brake and clutch lever (black), PUIG racing screen (light smoke), Evotech GPS mount, SW-MOTOR tank bag ring, full Termi race system with up map ECU (bought and installed by Ducati when I ordered the bike) Notes: Panniers were snapped off and left in the garage (likely so both bikes could fit), top box was on the bike. The bike also has Pilot Road 5 tyres with plenty of life left Thieving bastards information: Van license plate: VBF-21-B (Dutch) Make and Model: Ford Transit (more information can be found here: https://ovi.rdw.nl/default.aspx#) Location stolen from: 1013 NJ, Amsterdam Date & time: 16th July around 0100-0215 (footage indicates they were in the garage for a long time before the van arrives, more on that below) Notes: It looks like a half arsed professional job, 7 hooded men entered the underground garage and when the police came that night, it was clear they had gone through all electrical boxes by force until they found a cable marked 'Cameras' and cut that cable. The buildings people share the building together and one guy had his own camera network which captured most of the event.
Hey sorry to hear about your miserable luck on this one, hopefully they can track and trace the bastards down & shoot them.
Thread moved and I hope you get it back or at least the insurance company don’t try to screw you over!
I'm sorry to hear of the theft of your and your neighbours bikes, it's a horrible feeling. I hope that there's a successful recovery and some arrests though, in the UK at least, i wouldn't be holding my breath. Are trackers a common thing in the Netherlands? If your neighbour's GS is a reasonably new model don't they have all sorts of call home features that will tell BMW where you are if you have an accident? One of a group I toured with in 2019 had a topple over on his GS and they were calling his mobile before we picked it up off the floor... it took a few of us Maybe these systems can be used in the case of theft to track the bike?
Great that you clearly have the van number, unless that’s stolen too of course. 7 guys, that’s a team. What did the Police have to say?
Seriously, it's super annoying when you're bike gets nicked. I know from experience. But hang on, walking your dog at 02.00?? Wtf?? I really hope you get sorted and try not to let it eat you up. Everyone's still in one piece
I've been trying to get hold of my neighbour, but he's one of the silent types. No tracker on mine sadly So far... Pretty bloody useless, I call them right after the incident, they came out but naturally there wasn't much they could do so just took a few pics and told me to call the none emergency in the morning. I'm going to the police station tomorrow for a 75 minute interview to give them more information I guess? I've already got a file open but they won't give me a crime report number until tomorrow. I called as soon as I had the number plate of the van and the guy just said 'we've updated the case'... I work US hours, so generally my 'evening' starts at midnight and I get a couple of hours of downtime in before I go to bed which is why I walk my dog at that time so he's good for the night.
It doesn’t take them long to get the tracker off,and if the van is shielded the tracking signal can be blocked. When my mates Pani got nicked, he was onto the police giving them live info on the van locations, for 45 mins the police said they had no spare units. Then the signal was lost and so was the bike.
Genuinely sorry to hear of your plight and that of your neighbour too. These complete arseholes really do need to get what they deserve, however, whenever the police get 'involved' in these types of incident, because of the insurance situation, they seldom, if ever, expend much energy in helping the owner recover their property, or with tracking down the perpetrators! Let's hope that you do get your bike back exactly as you had it, although noting that the thieving toads ripped off the panniers, there will undoubtedly be residual damage to deal with. Once you do manage to achieve some positive resolution, perhaps think about a tracker system. Good luck to you both.
