So as suggested wanted to try and do the single injector mod for my 996 as it is flooding a bit when 2nd one kicks in. I was told all I have to do is disconnect one of the injector power cables on each cylinder. Ok easy, all off my good that bike disassembles easy. Disconnected the two wires on the inner side of both injectors just in case of issues I could plug it back in without disassembling. Good call bike does not start with single injectors per cylinder. Is there something I am missing, do I have to disconnect specific injectors? It was cranking over, fuel primed and every now and again got a almost running for it to stall again.
You need to change the eprom as you are now only firing one injector, hence half the fuel. Try a 916 open pipe eprom, the Senna chip was banded around as the one to use, but it's no different in reality. I've used these to good effect. The FIM one is very good, if you can find one. They're no longer in business unfortunately. Don't forget it'll need setting up to get the best from it. Try JHP or CJS for a suitable chip.
I was told to just unplug one on each. Oh well not as easy then. Putting that on hold as I realised I might be having the most common issue with 916/996 range bikes. I know you guys know so any of you want to take a guess? Need to look for suitable replacement now.
you have a stumble around 3-4K L? Worth going through all the standard tuning settings to start with. I have duplicates of nearly all sensors serving the ECU if you suspect one and want to take the lazy route (I often do)
No that one looks brand new and wires from alternator to regulator are nice, clean, not melted yellow. Keep on guessing. Also today is not a bike day ..... another thread starting soon.
Lucasz - you need to tell us what the specific problem is first?.. with as many symptoms as possible.
^ one day when i'm long gone people will plug their brains into a modern, yet-to-be-thought-of, name for a computer and all this typing lark will be superfluous - lying will no longer feature in a Dictionary etc etc.
Well Chris I only know of 4 problems that are repeated a lot about 916 range, the eccentric hub issue, rockers, fuelling and coolant expansion tank. My one is that, it is leaking slightly when temp heats close to max.
leaking water? - if it's a small amount it should be going into the 'other' expansion tank so maybe tube is damaged. Have you checked cap is sealing ok on main expansion tank? also is fan coming on and what does temp gauge read when it does. Obviously you have checked tank for splits as it's fairly common - normally goes at the seam half way up.
Fan comes on and then drops temp from 270F to 210F easy. When it starts leaking it is a very fine stream under pressure coming somewhere from area where there is a pipe going to second tank. Today I changed the pipe just in case it was that as it does not leak at normal place. Well from what I seen.
