1260 So Called Comfort Seat That’s Not!

Cant you take it to a local upholstery shop and get them to reform it or put a gel pad in?

 

The Touratech is a better shape, flatter and less likely to tip you into the tank from memory.

 

Come on Ducati, we pay a lot of money for your bikes, about time you fitted a seat that is fit for purpose.
It will cost the same to make a comfortable seat as it does to make a crap seat.

 

I had my 1200 Enduro seat rebuilt (re-shaped and gel pad fitted) by a local company, massively better but certainly still not 'all day' comfortable.

 

The Touratech option is far better and until recently I rated it highly. For my regular, when I do get out for the day, daily mileage of around 200-300 miles I find it great. When on tour I can repeat this for a couple of weeks and get off at the end of each day feeling great. However, a recent 450 mile motorway day getting back from Scotland in a hurry proved that's it's not perfect for that sort of all day riding distance. Mind you, a vast improvement over the OEM 1260 seat that had my butt cheeks smarting by 125 miles and the next day a slight sting when getting on the bike first thing which got worse throughout the day.

Got to echo that it's not good that a premium sports tourer got that aspect so wrong as standard.

Not convinced that the GT seat is a proper comfort seat or the current optional offering from Ducati is much of an improvement over stock.

 

Certainly not defending Ducati, or critiquing anyone else, but I wander if it this is more down to the human body? If you are unused to it, but suddenly start reeling off two or three hundred mile days, is any seat going to make this painless?

 

There is history with Ducati's seats for Multistradas! The early 1000 and 1100 Multistradas were fitted with a pain generator for a seat.. (half an hour to an hour before the wriggling set in) I then bought the DP 'Comfort' seat that delayed the onset of torture for about an extra 10 minutes... hopeless!

 

I find my Touratech version much better than the standard seat, it also seems to be better than the current Ducati branded version.

Trust me you need to try riding an Aprilia Tuono then you will know what pain is....

 

Have been banging in those mileages on tour for at least the last decade, at least one two week trip a year, more if I can make it happen, managed three in 2018.

Had a comfort seat on my MV although the standard one was still pretty good. Had some credit at the dealer and the comfort option seats looked really nice. Like the Ducati ones for my MTS they were separate and expensive.

Before the MV I have a VFR VTEC for many years and whilst not arm chair comfortable the seat wasn't a complete pain in the ass.

In my experience pretty well any seat is going to give discomfort if it's a long day of motorway miles. Get into the twisties and you can ride all day on all but the downright awful of saddles as you're moving around the bike. Mileage is naturally limited by this anyway.

 

Keeping off Mways is always good advice.

 

I have just sold a Touratech seat, it’s the best way to go. Far better than any other option apart from a custom seat in my option.

 

They stopped making them and sold off all their old stock about a year off so ago. That’s because Ducati started supplying their own version. Any seat that fits a DVT will also work on the 1260.
Keep your eyes open on For Sale section here (or eBay) as they turn up fairly regularly.

 

I purchased this seat and have to agree, it’s a much better seat than the original Ducati seat with regards to seating posture and comfort.
So much so my mate is now desperate to find one for his 2016 Pikes Peak…

 

Corbin is way more comfortable.

 

Never really had a problem with any of my Ducati seats including my 1198S, if we're talking about torture devices my KTM 1290 adventure seat takes some beating, i think part of the problem is with the style of bikes we get used to riding, i never had any problems with seats on bikes where we adopt a forward leaning riding position, whereas on an adventure type bike we tend to be more upright, i guess the Multi's are a similar riding position to my KTM and i find this piles (no pun intended ) pressure on the coccyx or tail bone, after trying numerous so called comfort seat options i settled on a cheap gel type mesh pad from China which though not perfect has improved things quite a lot...worth a try if nothing else, cost about £15 off the bay.

 

Yesterday, after all my investment in rider and pillion comfort seats and two years down the the line, the girlfriend complained about the fact that I'd removed the tribo anti-slip cover I had put on the OEM seat for her... We've been on tour and done numerous rides with the Touratech seats without this and she's only just noticed it's not fitted any more The comfort seats have a far gripper cover than the OEM ones but she can't be persuaded. Going to have to see if I put the tribo cover in the box of surplus bits or chucked it out. Either that or conveniently forget about it...

 

I am using a thick sheepskin atm for both the GS and Monster R. A big improvement.
Also, clothing makes a huge difference. I have Rokker jeans, an old pair of Lindstrands touring pants and a pair of vented leather Lindstrands sports type pants.
The leather sports are way more comfy for a long day, with the benefit of getting a bit more air in the personal regions when it gets hot.
