Winter commuter.

  1. I know there are no end of possibilities, but I do have plenty of time to decide.

I'm looking to get another bike for the daiily commute on the not so nice weather days.

My commute is 12 miles each way, majority includes fast B roads and some city roads. I want something with a but of umph which is still fun to ride.

    Any suggestions?

  2. 1200 bandit...Supermoto...enduro bike. Depends on budget

Mate has a KTM950SM and declares it the best all round bike he's ever had, uses it to commute on all bar the worst snow and ice winter days

  3. Anything with a heated seat, heated grips and handlebar muffs. So probably a modified MZ250.

  4. A BMW F650GS - a seriously tough motorcycle that will do all of those tasks with aplomb. The big single sounds great with an aftermarket can on it. Not enormously fast but still quicker to 80mph than most cars and does 65 mpg.

  5. burgman 650

I had one and they are awesome. superb weather protection. massive storage and reliable
the centre of gravity is so low you can throw them all over lol.
    they are ace [IMG]

    that was mine.
I was so impressed with it.
heated grips and seat as standard and electronic mirrors and screen. semi auto full auto or tiptronic too lol

  6. VFR750 last of the carbed ones.

  7. Depends what riding you're going to do? Inner city - naked bike, bar muffs as you wont need weather protection. You'll still get wet sitting at the lights. Country riding, an old zzr 600 or cbf600, pretty much anything from the late ninties that you dont care about. Again bar mitts or heated grips.
Anyway, why are we taking about it, it sunny for once

  8. I use a Guzzi 650, I've put heated grips on it, a pair of Oxford handle-bar muffs and a windscreen. I got it off everyones favourite auction website and it cost just over 500 quid. That was two years ago, since then I've put 10,000 commuter miles on it, not the prettiest thing on the road but at 60mpg who cares? It's been a brilliant little bike.

  9. Trouble is...................

  10. ................it reminds me of Darth Vader..................

    .........in plimsoles...........

  11. Definately a Honda and a VFR is a great choice. I had a VFR (T Reg) as a daily commuter, the bike lived out doors was used in rain, snow and ice and looked mint. Finally sold it 2 years ago to get a Blackbird but you can't beat Honda for build quality. Saying that I now own a Suzuki Hmmmmm

  12. Guzzi Breva 750 would be a good commuter, looks fab, shaft drive, nice and easy to weave through traffic and you won't see another on the way to work.

  13. I was going to say a big scooter, but Phill beat me to it... Seriously, try one - they are perfect for comuting. Forget what the "it looks like a..." crowd say - it's for doing a job, and it's the best thing for the job. Comfortable, cheap to run, good weather protection, great in traffic...

  14. absolutely.
    very low centre of gravity
    masses of storage
    seats 2 seriously comfy
    massive weather protection
    no wind buffeting
    do well over 100mph
so easy and relaxed to ride.
    electric heated seat/grips
    electric adjustable screen

once my backs given up and I feel the urge to do more touring
thats exactly the bike I will buy again

    trivia time......
did you know MCN raced one in a club race a few years ago
AND THEY DIDNT COME LAST HAHA

  15. And the other advantage is that they are ugly and unloveable and you couldn't care less when it is getting rained and snowed on and made filthy. In fact, it need occupy very little of your emotional thought - like a pencil, or a sink.

  16. a very valid point.
I never spent any time polishing it.
just kept it in oil and petrol and it never missed a beat even during commuting during the floods !!!

but when you get to where you want to go as dry and warm as can be - job done !

  17. in fact, it would be a bit like my lawnmower. It works when I want to cut the grass. That's all it is required to do.

  18. And if you fancy a cheap one - I would highly recommend a Sym.

  19. One of these would be pretty cool, open face helmet with a fag on the go, shouting "bella bella" at the crumpet.
