Hi All, Well, I've gone and bought a 2018 1260 PP! Wasn't the plan but got it for a great price and couldn't say no! I've bought Ducati heated grips but shop can't install them till mid September! I'm told they're an easy install but I can't see where the hell the wires plug into the loom. I'm told it's do-able just by putting the bars on full lock each side but I can't see the plugs anywhere. Anyone got any clues/photos? Thanks! FBB
OK. Update. I've found the left one, using THIS video. I'll take a photo of the exact location and update this post. If anyone can point me to the right one, job's a goodun! :-D
Update 2: Found it. Will post photos. Problem now is funky "star-drive" bolts holding the throttle grip on! :eyeroll
Be very careful disassembling the throttle housing. The throttle return spring is a nightmare to replace if it all comes apart. You’ll find tales of woe elsewhere on the forum.!
Had no problem with it fortunately. Previous owner had that little spacer fitted to take up throttle slack and I transferred that as I really like it.
Whew! Finally got this done. Fiddly AF!! So, some tips for anyone else who tries to do this: 1) Getting the grips themselves off is easy, as is popping on the new ones. The old left grip was stuck on pretty tightly but some WD40 sprayed with the straw jammed underneath the grip rubber and some gentle persuasion did the trick. 2) Check out the videos above for location of plugs. THIS is the difficult part. They're both buried in rubber blocks down in the front fairing. The blocks can be gently unhooked from tabs in the frame and pulled up toward you (GENTLY!) to get access. If there's any resistance, check the cables aren't hooked around anything. They don't pull all the way up but JUST enough to allow you work on them in an awkward fashion, The right one was fairly easy, the left was a bitch, requiring removal of left fairing panels. Use the start of THIS video as guide do doing that 3) With those panels removed, you can dislodge the rubber block by going at it from the bottom of fairing. Once dislodged, pull it up toward the top. 4) Ease the wire you want (per the video above) out of the block and use a very long thin screwdriver to press down on the tiny prong and remove the blank cable stuck in the socket. You can then insert the heated grip cable. 5) Push the socket back into the block and then relocate the block on the frame tab. I've got some pictures of this but they won't upload. I'll edit to make them smaller and upload.
And yes, after doing all that, you've still got to take it to the dealer to get them switched on. Annoying.
