V4 Keyless Fuel Caps

  1. How many have had one of these and would you recommend?

what happens if it doesn’t open when you want it to? Is there a way round it? The thought of being stuck with no way of refuelling in the middle of nowhere tends to put me off a bit but the idea of them is great.

  2. You would have thought, given the number of failures when the keyless fuel cap was introduced and the subsequent periodic report of a failure until today, Ducati would have sorted the problem. IMHO, if you want ease of access for re-fuelling, I’d fit one of the many after market manual caps. Andy

  3. Had them on my last two multis with no issues.

  4. Thought the same so bought a spare dumb key blank that was cut to a photo of the original for about £15 all in. Wear that on a lanyard around my neck when touring. OK, not quite as convenient but works OK for me.

  5. I bought a used one off ebay for £45, for my first Multistrada in 2013, the seller had cut the wires for easy removal :astonished:, so soldered on new cable and plug, it's been with me ever since, 2 more Multistradas and 90k miles later, it's never let me down.

  6. Had them on my last couple of PP with no issues, had one fitted to my V4 hopefully without any issues.

  7. I fitted one on my latest Multi and only had a panic once when it didn't seem to want to open. The trick is to not to turn off the bike until you are ready, then you need to wait about 5 seconds to open it, if you try too early or too late then nothing happens.

That said it does still concern me if as you say it wouldn't open whilst you are on tour. You would think there would be some sort of override system?

  8. I think you have 30 seconds to open it after switching off

  9. Agree but you seem to need to wait about 5 secs before you try it

  10. My KTM 1290 Adv has one, as stated above you have @30 secs to open it after turning off the engine, i guess its the same on the multi's - unnecessary gimmick IMO, along with the keyless ignition, too much to go wrong .

  11. Mine’s been great. Drive me bonkers getting the key out each time for a refuel when on tour.
