FWIW, Ducati replaced my 2012, 35,000+ mile, Multistrada crank when I had the engine rebuilt last year. The workshop identified an assembly fault that prevented the crank from being reassembled and presented a case which resulted in a goodwill foc replacement. Fingers crossed. Andy
They were helpful when my 28,000 mile Mutley 1200S delaminated my idler belt pulleys, therefore damaging the belts. This is my second Ducati and just hope I have a far better ownership experience than I did with the Mutley.
Between my girlfriend and I, we have 7 Ducatis. Had a few issues with a couple of them that the dealer has amicably and effectively resolved. I won’t consider riding any other make, my Multistrada is my forever bike and my Panigale V4 is my bit of madness for the track. Andy
Have replied to your PM. As for the photos, I'm leaning towards two possibilities, that it is either a poorly adjusted/specced valve train (shim issue?) or a breakdown in the case hardening of the material itself. Sometimes camshafts and heads are machined up as matching pairs, which perhaps might explain why your horizontal head is unaffected. Either way, this is NOT a moisture related issue. Why not email the pics to Nelly or Carl Harrison for a second opinion? Either are more than capable of determining the probable culprit. As for corrosion in your radiator, unless there is clear evidence that water has breached into your engine (not evident in any of your photos, judging by the colour of your oil), then this is totally unrelated, if they are insinuating this is a contributory factor to the engine wear.
Have spoken to Carl H. He is of the same opinion to me and everyone else I’ve shown the pictures to. Insofar as moisture is not the problem. Request has gone to Ducati so will see what happens next.
Update: Ducaaaati UK are changing the damaged cams & followers under warranty. So big thanks to them and my local dealer Seastar (Claire, Vince etc) for putting my case to them. Not getting bike back till beginning of September is the downside. (Waiting for radiator and bits plus workshop slot etc.)
Good work. Just goes to show how far a full main dealer history will take you with a bike that's well out of warranty.
Great outcome….. definitely worth pursuing this stuff even if it’s out of warranty! Glad you got it all sorted dude
