1200 DVT Dvt Clutch Problem

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by SP4S, Aug 21, 2021.

  1. Hello all

Ive noticed a problem with my 2016 DVT clutch lever that seems be getting worse every time i ride the bike. Bike has just under 15,000 miles.

It only appears once the bike is warm/riding in traffic for a while (so lots of clutch use). At the beginning of my journey the clutch pulls in fine, but after a while the lever becomes very stiff/noisy resulting in crunchy effect when pulling in lever.

Changing gears isnt an issue (yet) but i fear there are issues. As i say, happens once bike warms up

    Anyone had similr issues

  2. If you haven’t already tried bleeding the system then I would suspect a leak at the slave cylinder, a common Ducati issue.

  3. Thanks Couque

But it only happens when bike is warm/lots lol f clutch use.

  4. Change fluid to Motul 600 or equivalent. It’ll definitely help.

  5. I had similar, only went squishy when properly warmed up, slave cylinder was letting in air, could not see any leak, anyway new slave cured it .

  6. Adjust the clutch lever out as far as you can and see what happens.

  7. Thanks guys.

should have mentioned when pulling in clutch when warm. Quite a loud mechanical sound from near the cyclinder low down. I’m sure the sound also on opposite side of engine too.

  8. If I remember correctly there was a recall (or known issue) relating to a batch of master cylinders.

  9. Might be the piston binding up in the slave cylinder as it gets hot? Have the vin checked for recalls… I seem to remember a replacement piston assembly being issued.. may have been done? But worth checking

  10. I’m sure someone who’s experienced this will be along shortly but it sounds like there are 4 possibilities.
    1.Old fluid.
    2. Slave cylinder.
    3. Master cylinder.
    4. Clutch itself.

and that is the order I’d tackle it in.

My money would be on number 2. They’re famous for it. Don’t replace it with an original, get an Oberon
    Slave cylinder. Far far better.

I’d do it soon too otherwise it might get more expensive.

  11. I agree almost definitely the slave cylinder

  12. Thanks for the advice. Oberon slave cylinder ordered.
